There are many ways to become involved with the Women's Center.   Work with us, volunteer, participate in programs, and show your support through charitable giving!

We invite you to come by the Women's Center to check out the space and meet our staff.  We would be happy to talk to you about our volunteer opportunities, Work Study positions, and limited internships. Here are some of the many different ways for students, staff, faculty, and community members to get involved...

  • Work-study
  • Internships
  • Volunteering at the Women's Center
  • Women's HerStory Month - assist in program planning or serve on a planning committee (March)
  • Women @ Noon Presentation
  • Other Event Planning Committees

If you're interested in any of these opportunities, please contact Maria Teixeira.

Internships

Higher Education & Student Affairs (HESA) Administration Practicum

This practicum for graduate students in the HESA program will introduce the intern to the operation of a Women's Center in a institute of Higher Education. The intern will have the opportunity to work as an integral part of the Women's Center staff; attend meetings which include collaborating departments; and participate in the development and implementation of Women's Center programs. Attention is paid to drawing connections between theory and practice as well as between the practicum experience and the intern's assistantship and classroom experience. Additionally, the intern will take the lead role in a special project developed in collaboration with the supervisor. The practicum requires nine hours a week for one semester and earns the intern 2 credits. Students must sign up through the HESA program's practicum process.

Special Internship

Internships for undergraduate and graduate students in other departments have been developed in the past in collaboration with a variety of University departments to meet the needs of individual students. Contact your academic department to find out about its internship requirements and then contact us. If you are interested in an internship, please contact us for more information

Volunteer Opportunities

We offer many ways for volunteers to get involved at the Women's Center and always encourage creative participation and ideas. Past volunteers have been involved with event planning committees such as Women's Herstory Month, planning and implementing special projects about women's issues, creating brochures and posters for events and educational projects, presenting for Women at Noon, cooking or baking for get-togethers, tabling and postering, and various administrative tasks.

Throughout the year we have occasional events or projects where we need extra hands for a few hours. This might involve ushering at a major speaking event, helping us prepare a large mailing, or setting up for special events.

If interested in volunteering, please email us at women@uvm.edu or by phone at (802)656-7892.

Work Study

The Women's Center has several Work Study positions available including positions assisting in coordinating programming and positions assisting with administrative management. If you are interested in a Work Study position, please email us at women@uvm.edu or by phone at (802) 656-7892.
