Class of '60Emile Coulon wrote that his daughter, Amanda, will graduate next
year. She spent a semester at the University of Queensland-Brisbane
in Australia. Class of '61Cynthia Beilig Bendelac is an importer and wholesaler of folk
art from Morocco. She also is a designer and wholesaler of clothing
and accessories from Morocco. Class of '62Barbara Comtois retired from teaching home economics (now family
consumer science) in June 1997, after thirty years. Her retirement
has been both enjoyable and busy. Nancy Streit Sheeler returned
to New Hampshire after having lived abroad for the past twenty-five
years. Her daughter is marketing director of the Atlantic Theater,
and her son is a financial analyst at DLJ. Both live in Manhattan.
The Sheelers are semi-retired and happy to be back in New England.
Lois Lorand Fuerle has relocated to New York City to accept the
position of coordinator of court interpreting services with the
Office of Court Administration of the New York State Unified Court
System. According to the New York Observer, she has become an
"urban pioneer" by virtue of living in a landmark office building
south of Wall Street that was recently converted to residential.
Jared Emery, M.D., is a professor of Ophthalmology at Baylor College
of Medicine in Houston, Tex. He and Juliet Bergan Emery have been
married for thirty-five years. They have four children, and their
youngest son, Nicolas, is fifteen years old. Jared commutes from
Massachusetts to Texas for work. Class of '64They say, "No news is good news," but in our case, we need news.

Daughter Amy, a school teacher, and son David, a student at Colorado
State, were both adopted from Korea. Barbara plans Class of '66On September 29, several members of the class of 1966 attended
the wedding of Carol Neiman Spatzs son, Mark, in Plymouth, Mass.
Judy Claypoole Stewart, Claire Berka Willis, Nancy Castellanos
Miller, your secretary and husband Ken McGuckin, and, of course,
Carol, mother of the groom, all gathered for the festivities.

Samantha May, on October 28, 1998. Arthur, his wife, Lynne, and
daughter Sam make their home in Hopkinton, Mass. Arthur, an attorney,
is associated with The Angell Pension Group in Rumford, R.I.,
while Lynne is manager of 401(K) administration at Thermo Electron
Corp. in Waltham, Mass. Samantha hopes to attend UVM and be a
member of the class of 2020. ("Dad only hopes hell be around
to see it
Hell be seventy-four.") In August 1997, Richard Tinervin
and his wife, Gail, made Hilton Head Island their permanent home,
after having had a second home on the island since 1989. He noted,
"Coming back to the island every weekend from wherever I have
been traveling on business feels like being on vacation." Jeffrey
Hyman joined the firm of Lohf, Shaiman & Jacobs, P.C., of Denver,
Colo., as special counsel. In his practice, he specializes in
employment law, claims of injury to persons or property, and premises
liability. Duncan Hannah is a field technician at CVPS in the
Middlebury, Vt. district. He recently built a new home on the
site of the familys former summer camp on Lake Bomoseen, and
the Hannahs plan to live there full time. Margaret Drescher Newton
is trekking in Nepal. Linda Simet Klein joined Fleishman-Millard
International Communications as vice president of healthcare.
Barbara Montgomery Hider helped Ann and Bob Ostrom on a campaign
for election to the House of Representatives. Barbara loves to
exercise and enjoys aerobics and weight training. Robin Frost
VanMechelen took early retirement from the federal government
in April 1998. She plans to enjoy gardening, volunteering, running,
and visiting museums and historic sites in the Washington, D.C.,
area, where she lives with her husband, a retired IBM systems
engineer. Charles Goodwin wrote, "The kids are doing their own
thing. Skiing is inexpensive at major ski areas if you can take
a day. What more can one ask for
now that I think of it, if Act
60 would go away, that would be nice." Rebecca MacDonald let us
know that she, Nan VanHoesen Reed and Charlotte Haywood Randall
met in Boston the summer of their 25th reunion. They plan a repeat
for their 30th. When they found the "nest empty," Barbara Urey
Smith and husband Bob ventured into the world of sea kayaking
and playing and singing bluegrass music. They look forward to
visiting their children in Wyoming and Georgia. Cheryl Dalton
Swift is excited that her daughter, Jennifer 92, will have a
tour of duty in Japan at Camp Zama. Cheryl noted, "Jennifers
relocations open up a lot of travel opportunities." Cheryl has
hosted exchange students from France and Japan and tutored Asian
adults in English conversational skills. In August 1997, The Rev.
Paul Sackevich became pastor of St. Josephs Parish in Chester,
Vt., including the mission parishes of Holy Name of Mary in Proctorsville
and St. Josephs Chapel in Londonderry. In October 1997, Bev Hall
Watson and her husband, Gordon, opened the first historic inn
located in Burlington, Vt., offering fifteen elegantly-appointed
guest rooms, ten with private baths. Diane Davis Villemaire expects
to earn her doctoral degree in the history of science from McGill
University in Montreal. Her daughter, Emily, is studying painting
at Mass Art in Boston. Diane continues to teach biology at Harwood
Union in Duxbury, Vt., and she especially enjoyed teaching Emily,
who graduated in 1997. Diane looks forward to retiring from teaching
high school. She will teach "Breaking the Laws of Nature: The
History of Women in Science" at UVM next summer. Stephen Moreau
sold his insurance agency, the Moreau Agency, Inc., to the Pomerleau
Agency in 1989. He worked at Pomerleaus until 1995, when he moved
to Prescott, Ariz., and opened a coffee shop, built some apartments,
obtained an Arizona real estate license, and went to work for
a new home developer. He enjoys playing lots of golf. His son
works for Embry Riddle Aeronautical University as an aircraft
maintenance supervisor, and his daughter is an occupational therapist
in the Boston area. Linda Uren Krebs completed a PhD degree in
nursing from the University of Colorado in 1997. In May 1998,
she became president of the Oncology Nursing Society, a national
organization of more than twenty-five thousand RNs. Class of '69Robert Moeller wrote sadly that his wife, Sue, passed away in
November 1997. His daughter, Jennifer, graduated from Dartmouth
College in 1998, and his son, Erich, attends a New York restaurant
school. Kathy Tepper Knowlan wrote that she and her husband, Peter
68, still live in Randolph, Vt. Peter continues to run his own
law office, and Kathy is a kindergarten teacher in the Randolph
School System. Their son, Jeff, is a psychology major at UVM.
Daughter Kimberly entered Mount Holyoke College as a theater arts
and languages major after having spent a year studying in Switzerland.
The Knowlans Russian daughter, Roza, attends Middlebury College.
Kathy lamented, "Oh, those college tuitions." The Knowlans are
looking forward to the 30th Reunion in June 1999. |
