Jonathan Cain wrote that he and his wife, Valerie, welcomed the birth of their son, Ryan Jacob, on March 14, 2004, in Newton, Mass. Jonathan works at Fidelity Investments in Boston, and Valerie, a French-immersion teacher, is staying at home to raise Ryan. They see fellow classmates Wendy Hoffman Schoenfeld and Mark Alcaide regularly. Rob and Megan Walsh (’91) Cioffi welcomed their new son, Peter William, into the world on December 31, 2004. Peter joins sisters Molly and Caroline in the family’s Norwalk, Conn., home.

Eric Patel and his wife, Diana, welcomed their daughter Kendra and son Alec into the world on October 5, 2004. The Patel family lives in Chelmsford, Mass. Eric is an entrepreneur, consultant, and DJ, working for IBM, RapidSQA, DancejamEntertainment, and the DJ Mix academy. Diana works for Fidelity Investments. Linda Figlioli Farragher and her husband, Liam, welcomed a new daughter, Darby Michelle, into the family on October 5, 2004. Linda wrote that Darby’s big sister, Hadley Caroline, thinks she’s “hot stuff.” Linda has been staying at home since Hadley was born, but she hopes to return to her physical therapy career. She and her family enjoy living in Niantic, Conn. She wrote in January that she was “getting a kick out of the blizzard of ’05; reminds me of Vermont.”

Brian Knight G’97 is curator for Hildene in Manchester, Vt. Hildene is the 1905 summer home of Robert Todd Lincoln, eldest son of President Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln. The Lincoln descendants occupied Hildene until 1975, then, for the past 30 years, the house and grounds have been run as a non-profit corporation. Each year, numerous tourists have come to visit the restored home, complete with family artifacts, restored formal gardens, as well as breathtaking views. Brian is the author of No Braver Deeds: The Story of the Equinox Guard, published in 2004. For

Hello, class of 1994! I hope everyone had a good winter. One of the benefits of being the new class secretary is that I get to hear from friends I had lost touch with. One such friend is Claire Perryman Goodrich. She wrote that she and Sean have been married for eight years. After living in New York City for several years, they moved to Charlotte, N.C., and Sean received his MBA from UNC Chapel Hill. Claire worked in pharmaceutical sales. They moved to Minneapolis, Minn., in 2003, and Claire now stays at home with their daughter, Isabelle Anne, who is 18 months old. I also heard from Jason Amstutz, who headed to Salt Lake City after graduation before moving to San Diego, where he worked in the semiconductor industry and traveled to Europe and Asia until 2000. He moved back East and decided to pursue his goal of attending chiropractic school, which fits with his philosophy of healing and healthcare. Jason moved to Orange County, Calif., and became a trainer in 2002 and started school. He continues to be busy with school and work. Pete Baty, who has been living in Sydney, Australia, for the past year, wrote that life is good. He has been traveling, including a trip to the Great Barrier Reef and to New Zealand to ski, and he has been working on interesting environmental projects which involve the human health impact assessment of palm oil plantation and mill in the wilds of Papua, New Guinea. He mentioned that “there seems to be an avalanche of UVMers in Sydney suddenly.” He recently reconnected with Tom Davenport, who lives nearby. My sympathies to Pete on the “crummy ski conditions in New Zealand.” Life is so difficult sometimes. Last, but far from least, Zach Bayer married his wife, Lucie, in Prague in July 2003, and they recently purchased a home in Brooklyn. Zach works in New York City. I hope spring treats everyone well. We all enjoy hearing how you are all doing and look forward to updates, so please send them in.

Mara Raphael Wilcox won an Emmy award. Mara is a producer for CNN’s Lou Dobbs tonight, and the show won for a series entitled “Exploring America.” It was one of 35 nominations. Mara was a double major in English and political science. Kate Adams Pfeifle wrote to inform us that she is thinking about attending our 10th reunion. She has lost touch with a bunch of her former Tri Delta sisters but is eager to get back in touch. She returned from Montana and married Bret Pfeifle on July 14, 2001. They welcomed their first son, Teddy, on June 4, 2004. Kate visited Monica Ly-Cooperman recently, and she also sees Sam Pfeifle ’96 from time to time. Sam and his wife, Kristen, have a beautiful daughter, Ruby. Kate read about Reed Gilmore ’97 and is glad to see that she is doing well. She misses “Duck,” “Pastry,” Becky, Tanya, Julie, Reed, Ray Chamberlain, Krista, and everyone else. She also sent congratulations to Carl Erickson on his marriage and two children. Kate would love it if friends would get in touch via email at kpfeifle@ crhc.org. Kevin Reid wrote to tell us that he is back at UVM, taking the senior year portion of the med lab science program. Kevin was one of the first to graduate from UVM’s microbiology and molecular genetics program. After graduation, he moved from his home in New Jersey to Boston, where he lived until returning to UVM. For fun, Kevin is in the Hash House Harriers and traveled to Europe for the first time this summer to attend a worldwide convention. He has also finished five marathons, and he had a ski pass at Mad River Glen this year. Josh Baron, Bill Wright, Jamie Gurley, and Jack Turner have taken their musical careers and their alternative folk band, Josh Diesel, to new heights. The quartet recently sold out the Slipper Room in New York City and put on a tremendous show featuring three costume changes. Their West Coast tour ends in late May, which means they will be able to perform at our 10th reunion in June. Don’t miss it! Peter Jacob Keith will be completing his graduate studies at the University of Michigan this spring. He and his wife, Holly Elms (’96) Keith, along with their pet ferret Culpepper, will be moving to New York City this fall. Heather Sullivan has been living in Yosemite National Park in California for the past six years. She founded and now directs a small mission-based non-profit organization called Wild Women Workshops, offering courses in rock climbing and trekking adventures in Sierra Nevada, Joshua Tree, Alaska, Hawaii, Tibet, and India. Andi Lemmon reported that she and her husband, John Gorman, along with Rob and Bridget O’Connell (’96) Dangel, Matt Brennan, Kate Clark, Ryan Wildes, and Dave Sird and his wife, Liba, planned to take a trip to Jamaica together in February. Their main objective was to discuss how excited they are about our reunion in June. Greg and Erin Holden Rua welcomed their first child, a son, Gavin, on October 21, 2004. The family makes their home in Revere, Mass. Karen Wilson and her husband, Todd Papianou, who received a post-baccalaureate certificate in 2001, are living in Andover, Maine, where they bought a farmhouse three years ago. Karen teaches fifth grade, and Todd teaches high school physical education. They welcomed their daughter Madison, into the world on April 22, 2004. Karen will begin a master’s program in gifted education studies at the University of Missouri this summer. In the summer, Todd continues to manage Northern Waters Canoe and Kayak in Errol, N.H. Amy Wong lives in Boston, where she is a technical writer for Macromedia Software Corporation. She recently bought a condominium and has successfully renovated the kitchen on her own. In February, Amy was headed to Africa to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and to go on safari. She then plans to visit Alicia DeMartin in Colorado and to ski at Vail. Alicia recently bought a house in Eagle, Colo. She attends acupuncture school in Boulder. She and her fiancé, David, are planning an August 2005 wedding in Beaver Creek. Meighan Webber Rice, her husband, and their sons, Cooper and Jack recently relocated from Boston back to Vermont, where she continues to work for Verizon. Meighan wrote that Laurie Spinnler Bonner is planning to come to reunion with her. Laurie and husband Mike recently purchased a home in Milton, Mass. They are trying to get used to the suburbs after nine years in Boston. Allison King Dubois, husband Andre ’95, and daughter Lila are living in Los Angeles, and Michelle Todd Chancey and her husband live in Denver. They all hope to attend our reunion in June. Nicole Morningstar Russo will be at the reunion. She and husband Timon live in Colchester, Vt., with their son, Owen. Rachel Roach Thesing’s friends are hoping she will come east from Montana to be at reunion. Make your reservations now for our 10th reunion. Carey Baldwin is currently working at Bainco International Investors on Newbury Street in Boston and living in Charlestown, Mass., with her husband, Nat Hennigar, a 1998 graduate of Bowdoin College. Carey wrote that they were married on October 2, 2004, on Southport Island in Maine. Jenny Tasker Yama was bridesmaid, and other UVMers in attendance were Todd Gochman, Benny Roberts, Webb Thompson, Todd Kathan, Jim Downes, Timmy Madden, Anne Woodcock Salzhauer, and Greg Tucker. Andrew ’96 and Shelby ’97 Thompson, Allyson Foley ’97, Sara Kirsner ’99, Kate Morton ’99, and Jessie Morton ’99 were also there to celebrate. Carey also stood with her best friend, Jenny Tasker, when she married Mike Yama, a graduate of Southern Illinois University on June 12, 2004, in the Shakespeare Gardens in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Alexis Currera ’96 was also a bridesmaid. Others attending the wedding included Timmy Madden, Todd Kathan, Sarah Maher, Amanda Werner, Kelley Pillman, Whitney Wigton, Benny Roberts, Debbie Rosenblum, Sara Kirsner ’99, and Susan Wahlen ’96. The Yamas live in North Beach, and Jenny works for a hedge fund, Seasons Capital Management. Cris Bezamat returned to Wilson, Wyo., for another ski season. He was shooting with a movie production company in Jackson, Teton Gravity Research, as well as taking online classes at Parsons towards an MFA degree and trying to start a location scouting company with two friends. Kelley Pillman was in Boston last November for Kate and Jessie Morton’s birthday party along with Lauren Flannery, Sara Kirsner, Todd Gochman, Webb Thompson, Jim Downes, Adam Gurry, Steve Gilard ’97, Jodi Luster, and Steve Losordo ’97. I have some fun announcements for you this time. Hope Stevens married Justin Viau on July 12, 2003, in Colchester, Vt. UVMers in attendance included Amy Lumbra ’98, Heather Condon ’98, Sarah Combs ’01, and Alexis Stevens ’01. Hope is pursuing her master’s in education, and she teaches kindergarten in Fairfield, Conn. Amy Curran plans to marry Sam Silta on the Turks and Caicos Islands in June 2005. UVMers who plan to attend the wedding include Amy Buckley, Colleen Farrell Kamrad, Amanda Marcou, and Stacey Williams. Bridget Bazinet Shea and husband Chris of Lewiston, Maine, let us know that their son, John, who was born on January 29, 2004, is now walking. Dan Oleks is at Columbia University pursuing a master’s degree in international affairs with a focus on international security. He plans to graduate in 2006. Dan lives on the Upper West Side in Manhattan. Lesley Sheehan wrote that she and her UVM friends had many occasions to catch up with each other last summer. The first was the wedding of Kathleen Distasio and Sewart Brinegar in Harwich, Mass., on Cape Cod. UVM alums from all over the country came to the celebration, including Emily Van Allen, Jen Wlodarski, Joan O'Brien, Sarah Jerutis, Erica Burton, and Sean Langan. On August 14, Erica Burton and Sean Langan were married at Topnotch in Stowe, Vt., and the ceremony was performed by Lesley Sheehan. The same crowd gathered again and were joined by Abby van den Berg and Chris Driscoll ’00. They all got to see each other again when Joan O’Brien married Bear Pratt of Pennsylvania on September 26th in Quechee, Vt. In other group news, Sarah Jerutis is teaching in Chicago. Emily Van Allen recently moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and she plans to give the group the opportunity to get together again next June when she marries Paul Freedman of Berkeley, Calif., in Maine. As for Lesley, she was planning to relocate to Seattle, Wash., in February. Jamie Frank is engaged to be married and so is Katie Bell. Andrew Feihelman is working for Graybar Electronics and living in Boston. When Andrew is not working hard, you can find him at Mohegan Sun, Rhode Island, or even Miami. Sarah Pollica was married last spring and she now has a lovely baby boy, Jesse. Abigail Dinsmore is engaged to marry James King, and they plan to marry New Year’s Day 2006 in Costa Rica. Hello, class of 2000! I hope you enjoy the following updates. Jennifer Brumm married Joseph Pawlak in Chicago on October 1st. UVM alums traveled from all over the country to see the couple tie the knot. Alumni present included Hilary Esser, Jaime Jankowski, Kristin Morseman, Kristin McGrath, Melissa Graham, Julie Bourke, Jeff Leek, Sindy Stone, Brendan Mulvey ’99, Cindy Goodwin, Noah Whinen, Matthew Budd, Lisa Baetz ’01, and Katie Iger ’01. In true UVM spirit, this crew partied and danced the night away, celebrating the wonderful occasion. Afterward, Jennifer and Joe cruised around the Caribbean for their honeymoon. It was a memorable event for everyone who attended. Ellen Binns wrote to share the great news that Khette Szabo is living in San Francisco and recently got engaged to Walt Plyler. G. Carter Bevan ’01 and Athena Moutsiloulis are happy to announce their engagement. Carter and Athena met through mutual friends at UVM more than six years ago. He surprised her with a vacation to the Cliff House in Maine and proposed to her on the cliffs overlooking the water. The couple recently celebrated their engagement with a great cocktail party. A few UVM friends helped them celebrate that night, including Jonathan Bevan, Sam Judge, and Hattie Arsenault. They have set a wedding date of October 1, 2005, and they are looking forward to celebrating with all of their friends and family. After leaving Vermont in May 2000, Scott Nedwick, a native of San Francisco, returned to the Bay Area. He started working as a paralegal, but he now runs the legal department at a Silicon Valley computer company. Scott has been trying to finish the ground work for starting his own real estate investment company. He is active in his local community as a member of the public library foundation board of directors, serving on the board’s development committee which is responsible for membership and fundraising. Scott also enjoys riding his motorcycle at the racetrack and traveling all over California. He visits Vermont once a year to catch up with friends and see what's new in Burlington. Kathryn Becker ’02 of Washington, D.C., sent news that our classmate, Heather Moon, won the women's lightweight single at the Head of the Charles. She beat a number of elite rowers and U.S. National Team members to win the gold. Heather has been living in Boston and rowing with the Riverside Boat Club. She has also been profiled in Rowing News. Heather’s roommate is Paige Fader ’03, who also rows for Riverside. Thank you to all who sent me news. Please send your own updates so that your classmates can find out what you’re up to. Filiz Soyak moved to Boston last August and is living with Ani Ajemian, who is attending Suffolk Law School. They are living in the North End, close to Erin Kaechele, Dustin Gibberson, and Stephanie Teeter and her husband, who are moving back to Ohio soon. Filiz works as a graphic designer part time at a firm in Boston, designing web sites, and she paints at her studio in Somerville, Mass. Filiz reports that things are going well with her painting, and she has a gallery in Charlotte, N.C., where she shows her work. You can check it out at moderneyegallery.com. She also just saw lots of UVMers, including Katie Breer at Leah Murphy’s bachelorette party. Leah lives in Brookline, Mass., and she and her fiancé were getting married in Vermont in February. Ben Keeler is still at the Field School in Washington, D.C., where he teaches history to seventh and eighth graders and coaches soccer. He also plays bass and guitar in an instrumental rock band, The Blast of Valor (www.theblastofvalor.com). Laura Waske wrote that she recently moved back to Burlington from Boston to work at The Jean Garvin School, an alternative high school for students struggling to succeed in public school. She also visited Betsy Keyes, Quinn Longbothum, and Kristen “Roo” Edgerly in San Francisco last summer. They are having a great time on the West Coast, and they run into UVMers all the time. Sarah Novick and Mike McGuirk were married on July 31 in Newton, Mass. UVM guests included Liz Lundgren, Leala Sandquist ’02, Jessie Succop ’02, Lindsay Cutter, Tim Flannery, Ryan Angell, Ryan Cox, Mike Torney, Scott Pendergast, and many more. Sarah Laidlaw Wilde wrote that she and Martin are in Hershey, Pa., where Martin is playing hockey with the Hershey Bears in the AHL. One of his teammates is former UVM hockey star, Eric Perrin ’97. They have played against a few other former Catamounts this season, including Graham Mink, who is playing in Portland, and Patrick Sharp, who plays in Philadelphia. They plan to return to Burlington for the summer. Regan Coffey and Mike Torney plan to marry this summer. Erica MacConnell is the assistant coach of the UVM ski team, and she is working towards her MBA. Andreas Moborg and JF Caudron are playing hockey for a team in Germany.

I want to begin by congratulating Dory Folk and Chris Boland on their engagement. Dory is working as a marketing assistant at Heroix Corporation in Newton, Mass., and Chris is a 401K adjustments analyst at Fidelity Investments in Marlboro, Mass. Chris proposed to Dory over the holidays. Congratulations to you both! The Boston alumni recently organized a holiday party at the .406 Club at Fenway Park. Members of our class who attended included Andrew Fleming, Sarah Bombardier, Nicole Hintlian, Adam Wolk, Andrew McDonald, and Sarah Clark. Recently, I also spoke with Heather Larkin, who has been living in Boston since our graduation. She has been working in public accounting at Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP for nearly three years, and she is currently a senior associate. Also in Boston, Jaclyn Haley has left her former position as a paralegal to pursue teaching. She is currently working at Sharon Middle School in Sharon, Mass., as an English teacher specialist, and she is teaching 6th and 7th grade public speaking as well as 8th grade research skills. Jaclyn is very happy with her new career, and she hopes to stay working in Sharon for a long time. Elsewhere in the world, Elijah Kislevitz wrote to let us know that he is currently living in Kunming, China. He is a member of a blues band that was signed by Coors Light Beer to be the Coors domestic promotion band in China. He wrote, “That meant three months, 18 cities, and 90 shows in some of the most far out places one could imagine. I still find it quite bizarre and spectacular that a guy living and studying in Vermont would end up headlining a blues band across a Communist country.” That’s all for now. Greetings, class of 2003! I received some exciting wedding news from one of our classmates. Jed vonFreyman married Jamie Witherell ’02 on October 10, 2004, in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. Some fellow Catamounts in attendance were Sean Sullivan ’01; Alex Bauman ’01; Pete Labourdette; Eleri Orphanoudakis ’02; Amanda Breed ’02, who came all the way from Greece; Magen Portanova ’01; and Melody Wollgren ’04. Jed wrote that their one-year-old daughter was the flower girl, and next to the bride, she was star of the show. Many of the tables at the reception were named after UVM/Vermont places that were special to Jed and Jamie. They traveled to St. Lucia for a honeymoon, which was “heaven on earth.” The family now lives in Milton, Mass., and both Jed and Jamie are nurses; Jed, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Jamie, at BU Medical Center. Congratulations, Jed and Jamie! Gwen Chiaranda moved to Boston last summer, and she now works at BU Medical Center. She wrote, “So far, so good, although I miss Vermont a lot.” Kathy LaPlume married Michael Clark on August 14, 2004, in Newport, Vt. Their reception was held at Jay Peak Resort, and afterwards they spent their honeymoon in Jamaica. They recently bought a condominium in Essex Junction, Vt., and they were planning to move in last February. Kathy works for U.S. Investigation Services under the Department of Homeland Security. Kristen Powell is in her second year of teaching in Taipei, Taiwan, where she is head teacher at a school for six- through 10-year-old children, who are learning English. I had a chance to catch up with Billy Keighley, Hilary Dana, Fredo Guarino ’02, and Phil Hoban ’04 in Burlington before the New Year. Billy now lives with Fredo in Burlington, after taking a job with Magic Hat Brewery. Hilary is a teacher in the Champlain Islands, and Fredo continues to work for Red Bull North America. Can you believe it has been a year since graduation? Where does the time go? I hope that you all had a wonderful year, and please remember that our five-year reunion in now only four years away. However, in the meantime, here is what some of our classmates have been up to: Peggy Tiffany has moved to Washington, D.C., and she is currently working at the University of Maryland in College Park as a freshman admissions counselor. Jenny Casartello and Jim Eddy live in Vermont. Jenny teaches second grade in Swanton. Love is in the air for Brian Murphy and Katie Kasarjian ’06. They recently got engaged. So did Kelly Brown. She is engaged to John, her high-school sweetheart. Congratulations to Laura Tilghman, who has been awarded a Fulbright grant for ecology/environmental studies in Madagascar.
