Class of '90Brian Urey moved from San Francisco to New York for his new position
at Flemings. He recently became engaged to Soraya Betterton. Brenda
White Smith and her husband, Samuel, have a daughter, Grace, who
was born in August 1998. Brenda will complete her MSW degree at
Boston College in 1999. The Smiths make their home in Williamstown,
Mass. Brenda was the 1988 NCAA cross-country ski champion. Amy
Frazier Denslow and husband Kent 91 are living in Plano, Tex.
Kent is now south central and West Coast regions operations manager
for IDX Systems, and Amy is marketing communications manager at
PageNet. Rob Schukei, who works at Burlingtons IDX, and his wife,
Lisa, have two sons, Nate and Geoffrey; Bill Wyrick and his wife,
Dianna, are both lawyers in Pittsburgh; Amy Brangaccio works as
a marketing specialist at Bills Khakis in Pennsylvania; Karen
Mundorf (89) Summers reported that she, husband Jim, and sons
Nate and Ryan are doing well in Massachusetts. Chrissy Reith McGowan
and husband Mark 91 were delighted to announce the birth of their
son, Christopher Mark, on September 27, 1998. Their daughter,
Madeline Anne, is nearly two. Chrissy and Mark live in Oak Hill,
Va. Peter Harries was promoted to senior manager at Price Waterhouse
Coopers in Phoenix, Ariz. Bonnie Borton Lysek had a wondeful time
at the 100th anniversary celebration at the Pi Beta Phi house.
She enjoyed getting reacquainted with Ruth Henry and Kim Nolan
Gilliam. Bonnies husband and daughters, Emma and Maddy, also
enjoyed the weekend in Burlington. Allen Currier will be returning
to Burlington, Vt., to do a one-year interventional radiology
fellowship at Fletcher Allen Health Care. Abraham Madkour is editor-in-chief
of The Sports Business Daily, the only executive online news briefing
on the business of sports. Mary Jo Otto and husband Gary Koenen
announced the birth of her son, Robert James Koenen, on December
4, 1997. Richard First wrote that he married Jenny Evans on August
29, 1998. They spent their honeymoon in Hawaii and learned to
surf. He was happy that Scott Mathieu, Bob Stoddard, Bob Ward,
Bob Lobel, Andy Rosenberg, Peter Rosenberg, and Colin McNulty
were at the wedding. Steve Krupkin and his wife, Liz, live in
Evanston, Ill. They were married last February in Chicago because
it feels like Vermont that time of year. In attendance at the
wedding were Chris Bersani 89, Cynthia Forebush 89, Brian Bodell,
Andrew Coleman, Frank Gorski 89, Garth Fondo, Bill Gage 87,
Pete Monte 87, and Tim Spencer. Robert McLafferty, MD 90 joined
the faculty of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine
in Springfield, Ill., as an assistant professor of vascular surgery. Class of '91Glenn Cademartori continues to live in Hoboken, N.J., and works
for the Meadowlands Racetrack of the New Jersey Sports & Exposition
Authority as director of marketing. He recently became engaged
to Kirsten Bronkovic of Princeton, N.J., and they plan to wed
in Philadelphia on October 9, 1999. Ellen Jacobs Blum and her
husband, Steve, announced the birth of their second child, David
Benjamin Blum, on July 24, 1998. Sandra Goldstein Pohlman is a
patent attorney for a law firm in Munich, Germany. She misses
her UVM friends and invites them to join her for the real Oktoberfest.
Maureen OBrien wrote that Ellen Abrams married Steve Glasshand
on October 31, 1998, two years after their first meeting. In
attendance at the wedding were Lisa Towne, maid of honor, Laurie
Almon Bompey, Risa Porosoff, Erica Lipsky, Rachel Singer, Emily
Gradess, Dave Gleit, and Maureen. Ellen and Steve will live in
Atlanta, where she is a middle-school teacher. Her Washington,
D.C., friends sent the message, Ellen, please come back to DC.
We miss you. Louisa Murray married Chad William Preston on September
6, 1997, in Ticonderoga, N.Y., at her familys Lake George summer
home. Louisa and Chad live in Seattle, Wash., where Louisa has
a private practice in SOMA bodywork and Chad works for Corporate
Express. Jonathan and Liz Bohn Scharf are the proud new owners
of a one-bedroom condominium in Cambridge, Mass. Jonathan completed
a masters degree in the agriculture, food, and environment program
at Tufts Universitys School of Nutrition. Skip Carlson is a field
engineer with the Vermont Manufacturing Extension Center in Randolph
Center, Vt. Class of '92Greetings from across the pond. I am currently living in the UK
and working for a corporate culture consulting firm. Let me know
if any of you are expats as well and get in touch. Here is the
news from our classmates. Keep the updates coming. Rebecca Gratz
wrote that she recently completed her masters degree in environmental
studies and her teaching certification for grades seven through
12 in history and social studies. She lives in New Haven, Conn.,
and is looking for work. Christopher Neumann has joined the New
York office of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP. He is focusing on his
practice in corporate law. Christopher graduated magna cum laude
from St. Johns Law School in 1998. James Gildea was married in
October 1998 to Monica Ceklosky in Westfield, N.J. Fellow alumni
in attendance included Josh Hunt 93, Adam Cate 94, and the grooms
sister, Cristin Gildea 95. James and Monica now live in Clark,
N.J., and look forward to skiing in Vermont soon. Holly Donovan,
formerly Holly Hubbard, recently completed her MEd at St. Michaels
College. She is currently employed by Vermont Technical College
in Randolph Center, Vt. Kaaren Sprague wrote that in June 1998,
she married John Meyer in Las Vegas. Mark Klym and his wife, Suzanne,
recently moved to Raleigh, N.C., after Mark left the Navy JAG
Corps, where he had practiced law for three years. He will be
working as an associate at Nicholls and Crampton in North Carolina.
Jennifer Straszewski graduated from Marquette University in december
1998 with an MBA degree. Katherine Ann Thomas wrote that she attended
the weddings of several classmates, including Polly Ringenback
93, Karen Berlyn, Amy Jackel, and Heather Lawless. Next summer,
Katherine is planning her own wedding to Patrick Zilkha, a Lehigh
University graduate. Jana Baldwin Hamrell reported that her husband,
Briant, is now self-employed. She also let us know that Jill Seeman
has a new apartment in Manhattan and would love to hear from alumni.
Deborah and Matt Sivret have moved to North Carolina for new careers.
Melissa Howe Pitts has also moved to North Carolina for graduate
school. Helvi Abatiell is enjoying her success with Creative Space,
Vermonts first and only art gym. In June 1998, Jamie Kaiser was
married to Dr. Gerry Smith in Norfolk, Va. Kelly Luchini was maid
of honor. Other guests included Heather Foster, Lisa and Corrie
Sweet, Jen Child, Coleby Mantz, Maria Pizzagalli, Sue Gilmore,
and Deanna Leonard Sivret 93. Wendy Frazier had a baby boy in
September 1998. She lives in Farmingdale, Long Island. Kathleen
Gilmore Walker graduated with a JD degree from the New England
School of Law in June 1998. While in law school, she worked as
a paralegal for the Massachusetts Department of Social Services.

sent his best from the Windy City of Chicago. Zack is attending
business school at Kellogg and is enjoying it, although he complains
his homework cuts in on his MTV time. Tom Egan is still on Wall
Street, pursuing his MBA at NYU. Tom and his wife, Julie, have
their first addition to the family, a bulldog, which Tom has named
Jeter in honor of his favorite Yankee shortstop. Fellow New Yorker
Rob Jamison is keeping his day job as a stock broker, although
he claims his first love is following NASCAR and baseball. Scott
Stern wrote from San Francisco claiming that Patrick Guinness
still owes him grocery money from their time on South Prospect
Street. Scott is engaged and working for Mondavi Vineyards. Elizabeth
Wessman is living in Hawaii with her husband, Derek, and their
son, Collin. Derek is a P-3 pilot in the U.S. Navy, and Elizabeth
is working part-time as a public health nutritionist for the Womens
Health Initiative Research Project. Gregory Hullstrung is working
is private practice in New York City. Greg and his wife, Liza,
are expecting their first child in the summer of 1999. Carolyn
Turner Maull is loving her job as an athletic trainer at Princeton
University. After graduating from UVM, Carolyn attended Columbia
University for exercise applied physiology and sport sciences
and then spent two years at the University of Denver in Colorado
before moving on to Princeton. Melanie Edwards and Mark Furr 92
sent their best from Georgia. Melanie is teaching high school
English and coaching the debate team. Mark is working as a mechanical
engineer. He travels nationally and internationally to manage
engineering projects on U.S. military bases. Naomi Shulman is
in New York City, working as an editor at St. Martins Press. She
fondly remembers the start of her literary career as an intern
at the Vermont Quarterly and credits the experience for helping
steer her into publishing. Allan Urgent has relocated to Brookline,
Mass., and is working as an associate of Testa, Horwitz & Thibeault,
LLP in Boston. He wrote to say hello to the OMA crowd. Russ
and Laura Bartels 94 are living in Farmington Hills, Mich., and
were expecting their first child in early 1999. Meade Berman is
enjoying graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania. He
wrote, I love Philly, and my graduate studies in urban planning
have been challenging but very fulfilling. J.J. Toothman, who
works as a Web designer at FutureOne in Phoenix, Ariz., has agreed
to create and maintain a class of 1993 homepage. You will be able

Mike Belizzi was married to Jennifer
Russ, a 97 graduate of UVMs nutrition masters program, in September
1998. Ed Cook served as best man, while fellow alums Jon Hodes,
Noah Sternchos, and John Philips 96 served as ushers. Kim Belizzi
97 was a bridesmaid. Many other UVM graduates were in attendance.
The couple spent their honeymoon in the Caribbean before settling
into married life in Raleigh, N.C. Karen Spach and Drew Larsen
93 were married on September 27, 1997. UVMers in the wedding
party included Mara Young, Sara Golier, Kara Swenson 93, and
Doug Krause 93. Doug Schneider and Stacey Clark also attended.
Karen and Drew went to Belize on their honeymoon and now make
their home in Denver, where they often see Andre Dubois. Jonah
Sigel is in his second year of law school at the University of
Miami. When not at school, Jonah works for the Florida Panthers
NHL hockey team. Jonah will marry Lisa Stone from Michigan on
May 30 and, therefore, will be unable to attend our reunion. Dr.
Craig Rothenberg and Maryellen Ginsberg plan to be married on
June 27, 1999. Craig will finish his residency in June, and he
plans to go into private practice, eventually opening his own
practice within a few years. Class of '95Hi, everyone. Happy 1999. I hope you all had a great holiday and
have enjoyed the winter so far. I made it home to Vermont over
Christmas and was able to ski and skate. Otherwise, I have been
enjoying life in the Big Apple and am still with Alliance Capital,
working in product management on the domestic side of the mutual
fund business. Marcy Dolgas wrote that she is living in Minneapolis
and working at a law firm. She is engaged to Andrew Shelden, and
they are planning an August 1999 wedding. She has kept in touch
with Karin Walker, who lives in Sudbury, Mass., and works as an
elementary educator, and with Rebecca Grosser Ballada, who lives
in Colchester, Vt., with her husband, Viktor 96. At last notice,
Rebecca works at Central Vermont Hospital as a nutritionist. Kevin
The Red Rooster Rooney married Debra Dabrowski, a graduate of
Ithaca College, on October 10, 1998, at Kingsland Bay State Park
in Ferrisburgh, Vt. Fellow Alpha Gamma Rho brothers and UVM alumni
in attendance were Matt Randall, best man, Matt Nelson, Eric Wightman
93, Loren Gosselin 94, and Robert Duval 96. Fellow AGR brother
Andrew King 93, who was unable to attend the wedding, did make
it to the bachelor party festivities. Monique Karthaus 94, a
lifelong friend of the groom and fellow UVM alum, also attended
the lakeside exchange of vows. The couple will continue to live
in E. Berlin, Conn. Carrie McCuin Selby and her husband, Dean,
celebrated their first anniversary in September. Dean was transferred
to the Energizer Battery Plant in St. Albans, Vt., where he is
a mechanical engineer. Carrie left her job at the Office of Hearings
& Appeals in Albany, N.Y., and started working at the Department
of Justice with the Immigration and Naturalization Service, also
in St. Albans. Dean and Carrie recently bought a home in Fairfax,
Vt., where they enjoy playing with their dog, Cody. Holly Blum
and Jon Andrews were married in Essex Junction, Vt., on August
8, 1998. They live in Essex, Mass. There were many UVM alumni
at the wedding, including David Flynn 93, Bruce Gordon 93, Elzy
Sklar 95, Mitzi Fowler 95, and Beth Macomber. Kelli Shonter
and Valerie Pappas wrote in with lots of news. Their New Years
Eve 98 in Vail, Colo., was a smashing success. They met Chris
Ford, Jamie Hosker, Lisa Kimry, Randi Tinkelman, Tim Abrahamsen,
and Joe Nastro, and had a snowy vacation with great friends. Kelli
lives in Boulder and is the resource coordinator for a non-profit
organization in Denver; Lisa lives in Boulder and is studying
for vet school; Jamie lives in Boulder and is an attorney for
Colorados new attorney general; Valerie lives in Denver and is
a lawyer, specializing in medical malpractice defense; Joe lives
in Oakfield, Wisc., and is helping manage a herd of more than
100 elk; Tim lives in Washington, D.C., and works for the NIH;
Randi is finishing up a masters degree in social work in Boston,
where she often sees Chris Ford, a student of computer science.
Peter Keith works for Robertson Stephens in San Francisco, where
he lives with Holly Elmes 96. Jamie Hosker recently visited Aaron
Hirsch, who lives in northern Peru. Aaron was married in November.
He owns a restaurant and a surf shop. Ann-Marie Vannucci lives
in Hershey, Pa., and is dating a fellow UVM grad, Scott LaMoth.
Ryan Clinton works at GCN in Stamford, Conn., as a bond trader.
Zack Morton is a homeowner in Milton, Vt. Susannah Ural-Bruce
is working on her PhD in military history at Kansas State University
and is happily married to her husband, Robert Bruce. Blake Latta
works for IBM in Chicago. He recently bought a home and got a
puppy. Bridget Barr 96 works for Inc. magazine in Boston. She
is dating Phil Bellizia, who also lives in Boston. Most importantly,
the gangs burning question is, Where is Matt Losse? Please
get in touch. Class of '96Hi, everyone. I hope spring is on its way to wherever you are.
I also hope it will show up soon in the Northwest. I have a tip
for any skierstry to make it out this way to Whistler/Blackcomb
resort in British Columbia sometime. I took a winter ski trip
there and found it amazing. Sure beats Sugarbush, although there
is much to be said for Vermont skiing, of course. OK, on to the
news
Ill start with the emails. I recently heard from an old
senior class council friend, Sandy Sanders, who lives in the South
End of Boston, where he is a portfolio assistant at Evergreen
Investments. Also in South Boston, Miguel Roque works at Price
Waterhouse Coopers and is still a strong alternate for the local
WWF club, despite recently suffering an injury from a wrestler
named The Great Hambino while he performed his death-defying
move, the Ham Drop, on me. On the other side of the country,
I heard from Jeramie Wright, who recently was promoted to account
executive at InfoSpace.com, Inc. Rebecca Hill and Dana Stokes
97 are roommates. Rebecca is working at Palace Press, and Dana
is continuing her education. Karen Hammer wrote that, since graduation,
she moved back to Massachusetts for a while, received her masters
degree in marriage and family therapy from Antioch New England
Graduate School in Keene, N.H., and recently moved back to Burlington.
She is a family therapist with the Counseling Service of Addison
County in Middlebury. Candace Upson Bignell lives in Los Angeles
with her new husband, Chris. They were married on August 1, 1998,
in Chatham, Mass. Bridesmaids included Julie Coyne, Meredith Curtin
95, Monica Ly 95, Audrey Alpert 95, and Addie Mae Spongberg
98. Candace works in Santa Monica at the John Wayne Cancer Institute
and is enjoying the warm weather and sunshine. Alex Lemon wrote
that he is a medical student at Southwestern Medical School in
Dallas, Tex. Dale Patterson and Melissa Welch 97 were married
on September 6, 1998, in Killing-ton, Vt. They now live near Philadelphia.
Other UVMers in attendance at the wedding included Eric Gauthier,
Craig Stevens, Jay Stevens 00, Brianna Gardner 97, Susan Wertheim
97, Ali Lawrence 97, Tiffany Gardner, Dana Alpert, and Katie
Schopman. Ive also received a few snail mail letters over the
past few months, which are always an extra treat. Sarah Shedd
wrote with news: Lisa Flier and Mike MacDonald were married on
October 7, 1998, and they live in Groton, Mass. Lisa Hill is soon
to be married to Matt Isham in May 1999. Dana Rous started graduate
school for social work at Simmons College in Boston. Donna Roderick
wrote that she and her fiance of two years, Jon Lampson, have
announced a wedding date of September 11, 1999. They live in Westfield,
Mass. Amy Raymond wrote that she has settled down in North Hartland,
Vt., where in August 1998, she married her husband, Kevin Raymond
95. They have built a house there, and both have fulfilling jobs,
Amy, as an RN at Mount Ascutney Hospital, where she recently finished
an ICU course, and Kevin as a supervisor at TimKen Aerospace.
In other class news
Theresa Schnapp accepted a position right
after graduation with AmeriCorps in Phoenix, Ariz., where she
worked in their literacy program. After her year-and-a-half commitment
was completed, she moved to Flagstaff to continue working on a
masters degree in ESL at the University of Northern Arizona,
which she expects to complete by the summer of 1999. Peter Yee
is in sunny Kaneohe, Hawaii, and is happy to find other UVMers
on the rock as well, including Rondee Lum 94 and Bill Montgomery
94. Peter is married now and has a daughter, Emily, born October
13, 1998. Laura Engelken and Rachel Bauman 95 celebrated their
commitment ceremony on August 1, 1998, in Santa Cruz, Calif. Former
UVM campus minister Roddy ONeal Cleary officiated. Laura and
Rachel both work in student affairs at the University of California,
Santa Cruz. As for me, Im enjoying live in Seattle. I am still
at the same travel publishing company, where I am now editor of
two publications. Its hectic, but satisfying. Im just looking
forward to another summer in the Northwest, full of hiking and
trips into the mountains. I hope you all have a great spring and
early summer. Looking forward to hearing from you. Class of '97Lots of news from East to West. Jason Robinson is living in the
Boston area and working at Babson-United, Inc., a stock investment
group, located outside of Boston. He recently ran into Claire
Neely, who is working at Smith Barney in New York City. Christie
Millard works for Goldman Sachs in New York, but will be transferred
to the Chicago office in the near future. Mark Smaldon, Adam DeVine,
Fred Losen, and Todd Unger have just moved in together in New
York City. Deirdre Ganun is living in San Francisco and working
an ad sales at CNET: The Computer Network. She reported on some
of the many UVMers in San Francisco: Adam Hunter is at Van Kasper
Company, Andrew Cho is at Montgomery securities, and Heather Jerman
is doing psychology research at San Francisco University and working
at Kuletos Restaurant in Union Square. Jason Hancock works at
the corporate headquarters of Jamba Juice, a smoothie and health
food company. Carolyn Walsh is a kindergarten co-teacher at the
Greenwich Country Day School in Connecticut. She is coaching varsity
soccer and lacrosse and is halfway through her masters degree
in teaching at Fordham University. Andrea Ellis and David Schroeder
are engaged and are planning a wedding in July 1999. After having
lived in Steamboat Springs, Colo., with fellow UVMers for the
past year, David is currently living in Philadelphia and working
for Pontecchio, a small software company. Coast Guard Seaman Jessica
Sivret recently completed U.S. Navy basic training with honors
at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, N.J. Class of '98Navy Ensign William Windus received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School at Naval Avations Schools Command a the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla. |
