North American Maple Syrup Council. Regional Research on Population Dynamics of Pear Thrips. A regional survey to determine pear thrips populations in sugar maple soil in the syrup producing regions of North America will be conducted. Sugarmakers will be instructed on a simple method to take samples and extract thrips, and how to address damage by thrips in the spring. Data will be compiled and distributed to sugarmakers regionwide. (M. Skinner, B.L. Parker)
Chittenden County Sugarmakers Association. Pear thrips biology. Numerous aspects of pear thrips biology related directly to their management in maple forests have been studied. This led to development of sampling methods that enable sugarmakers to predict damage, allowing them to adjust their management practices to reduce tree stress from this insect pest. A manual describing these methods was prepared. (B.L. Parker, M. Skinner)
