What is UVM's COVID-19 vaccine and booster requirement for summer 2022 and fall 2022
Every student in any program—undergraduate, graduate, medical and continuing and distance education—who is accessing UVM facilities or programs in person or online is required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have approved exemption. Fully vaccinated means:
- Had a booster shot; or
- Completed a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine series within the last 5 months; or
- Completed a WHO approved vaccine series within the last 5 months; or
- Completed a Johnson & Johnson vaccine within the last 2 months; or
- Have an approved medical or religious exemption.
What if I will not be fully vaccinated by the time I enroll?
Contact Student Health Services at health@uvm.edu.
What should I do if I am not vaccinated, but have an appointment scheduled to be vaccinated?
If you are not vaccinated or fully vaccinated, but have an appointment to be vaccinated or boosted, you can enter that information by logging in using your NetID to https://mywellbeing.uvm.edu and click the “Enter My COVID-19 Vaccination Information” button on the main screen. You will receive reminders to submit proof of vaccination. Any student not fully vaccinated or in the process of becoming fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption will not be permitted to enroll at UVM.
What if I have a medical or religious reason for not being vaccinated?
Students who require an exemption from the COVID-19 vaccination must complete this form (pdf). The deadline for summer semester 2022 is Sunday, May 22, 2022 and for fall semester 2022 is Sunday, August 7, 2022.
I’m an international student and the vaccine available to me is from a different producer than those available in the U.S. Will UVM accept internationally approved vaccines?
UVM will accept any vaccine authorized by the World Health Organization. The WHO has developed a process for assessing unlicensed vaccines and therapeutics during public health emergencies. A number of COVID-19 vaccines not available in the U.S. have received emergency-use listing by the WHO. You are able to get a booster of a different type of vaccine.
Will UVM be able to offer vaccines or boosters to students on campus?
UVM’s access to vaccines and boosters is dependent upon Vermont Department of Health policy and practice. While we hope to have access to vaccines and boosters for on-campus administration, we cannot guarantee this plan or the availability of any particular vaccine. We therefore suggest students receive their vaccine or booster shots at home before coming to campus or plan to go to a local vaccine and booster clinic when you arrive back on campus.
Does the mandatory vaccination and booster policy include Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) students?
Every student in any program—undergraduate, graduate, medical and continuing and distance education—who is accessing UVM facilities or programs in person or online is required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have an exemption. Only students enrolled in fully on-line courses and living outside Chittenden County in the State of Vermont or outside of Vermont may request an exemption by completing this form (pdf). Contact Student Health Services for additional information at health@uvm.edu.
Will students who are not fully vaccinated be required to test and wear a mask?
At this time, students who are not fully vaccinate are not required to test for COVID-19 or wear a mask. As we have done throughout the pandemic, we will continue to consult with our public health and infectious disease experts before we make changes to our protocols, based on the circumstances at the time.
Will I have to test for a period of time after I receive a booster?
You are not required to test for a period of time after you receive a booster.
What if I already had COVID-19?
Having COVID-19 in the past is not a substitute for being fully vaccinated for COVID_19 because there is not enough data to support that the protection from COVID-19 illness is as robust and protective as the immune protection from the vaccine. You are required to get a vaccine and booster shot.
If I am an employee taking courses, am I required to get vaccinated and get a booster for COVID-19?
Yes, you are required to meet the student health immunization and vaccine requirements.
Information on other UVM immunization requirements is available from UVM Student Health Services. This information is current as of April 8, 2022 and is subject to change if current circumstances warrant.
