About MMG 1650 Z1

Overview of microbiology, emphasizing the relationships between the structure, metabolism, and genetics of microorganisms and their roles in nature and in pathogenesis. Prerequisite: One semester chemistry. Not intended for students who have completed BIOL 1400 and BIOL 1450 or equivalent.

Section Description

MMG 1650 is an introductory microbiology course, consisting of lecture and laboratory. Lecture and laboratory will be integrated to give students the opportunity to understand the theoretical and practical aspects of the impact of infectious disease on human health and the importance of the proper collection of specimens to identify and treat etiologic agents of disease.

Section Expectation

This course will combine direct-instruction, small group discussion, and laboratory experiences. Students should expect to spend about 6-8 hours per week on coursework outside of class.
A textbook such as Cowan's Microbiology: A Clinical Approach will be required.

Evaluation

The course will be assessed through a combination of exams, quizzes, homework assignments, and case studies.
