Section Description
This course will support special education and general education teachers to use the arts and creativity in their classrooms, and arts teachers to support students with disabilities in arts lessons. Course readings and viewings will be balanced with plenty of artmaking, art viewing, reflection and planning for application. This course will cover art and creativity, accessibility in the arts, and arts integration. Students will address common challenges and barriers to using arts in the classroom, mitigators for those barriers, and the benefits of including arts for students and teachers.
By the end of this course, students will have a good understanding of the importance and benefits of accessible arts for students with and without disabilities. Students will have gained experience with a variety of artforms and will be able to plan and execute arts integrated lessons designed to meet the needs of diverse learners. Students will be able to assess and address materials, classroom environments, curriculum and pedagogical approaches for accessibility in arts lessons.
Section Expectation
Students will be expected to engage in weekly readings and activities online. There will be two optional in person meetings on Campus: Monday July 6 5-7 pm and
Weds July 29 5-7 pm
