Introductory courses addressing the representation and construction of race in literature and/or the contributions of ethnically diverse writers to the American culture. Section Description

Students will read play texts and screen/watch the corresponding films, take notes and completing response worksheets and discussion board prompts on each. The course content centers on U.S. plays by Playwrights of Color that were also made into films. Students will also be expected to complete a final creative/research project on the topics/themes of this course.

Section Expectation

Students are expected to read and screen TWO plays per week, complete assigned notes, worksheets, and discussion board prompts, and should allocate an appropriate amount of time for this self-guided study.
Films will primarily be available through UVM screening resource platforms though some additional rentals/purchases may be required.
Play scripts will be available in combination from Howe Library and additional rental/purchase.
This course is online-asynchronous and does not have a structured meeting time.

Evaluation

Students are evaluated on a point system assessing work for quality of completion and the demonstration of knowledge expansion.
