Orange barQualifying undergraduate students who elected the at-home learning option for the Fall 2020 semester are eligible for a tuition free 3-credit Summer 2021 course.

Eligibility for this scholarship is contingent upon meeting all of the following criteria:

  • Elected the at-home learning option for the Fall 2020 term by the initial published deadline (July 22, 2020)
  • Enrolled as a full-time, undergraduate student in the Fall 2020 term
  • Enrolled exclusively online/remote in Fall 2020
  • Eligible to register for Summer 2021
  • Students who have tuition already covered by other University sources such as athletic grant-in-aid or tuition remission are not eligible

How do I know for sure I am an eligible student?

If you meet the criteria listed above, but are still unsure whether you are deemed an eligible student please check your UVM email account for an email sent to you from Sarah Warrington, Coordinator of Strategic Retention on Friday, February 12. An email with the subject "Your Eligibility for a FREE UVM Summer 2021 Course' was sent out to all eligible students. If further clarification is needed, please contact Student Financial Services.

Will I need to pay any fees?

Tuition and comprehensive fees are covered for the 3-credit tuition-free course for eligible students. Eligible students are responsible for all other associated costs including any lab fees, course material fees and/or textbook costs.

What do I need to do to use the tuition-free course?

If you are eligible, the tuition and comprehensive fee scholarship will automatically be applied to your student account when Summer 2021 charges are billed.

What happens if I only enroll in a 4-credit Summer 2021 course?

If you are an eligible student, a 3-credit tuition and comprehensive fee scholarship will be applied and you will be billed for the balance.

What happens if I only enroll in a 2-credit Summer 2021 course?

For eligible students, up to 3-credits of tuition and comprehensive fee charges will be covered. If you are eligible and enroll in a single 2-credit course, the tuition and comprehensive fee will be covered. This will constitute your tuition-free course.

I graduate in May 2021. Can the free 3-credit course be used toward a graduate level or non-degree course?

Yes. If you earned the tuition-free course as an eligible undergraduate student in Fall 2020, you are eligible for the tuition-free course even if you are a non-degree or graduate level student in Summer 2021.

I am unable to enroll in Summer 2021. Can I use the free course for another term?

No. The free course cannot be transferred to any other term and may not be transferred to any other individual.

What happens if I drop or withdraw from the course that I received a 3-credit tuition-free scholarship for?

If you drop or withdraw from the course you initially received a 3-credit tuition-free scholarship for (where you would receive a full or partial refund based on the course's tuition refund period), you will not receiveĀ  additional scholarship monies if you later decide to enroll in another course over the summer session.

Are students who elected the at-home learning option for Spring 2021 eligible for a tuition-free summer course?

No. The tuition-free course was offered as an incentive to undergraduate students to choose the at-home option early and assist in de-densifying the campus. The incentive was not extended to Spring 2021.
