Presidential Responsibilities

Leadership Meetings

The President of Staff Council meets with a number of University leaders on a regular basis, representing the Staff Council and the concerns and needs of UVM staff. These include:

The University President

The Staff Council President (along with the Vice President and Council Administrator) meets quarterly with UVM's President and/or the Special Assistant to the President to discuss Council business and staff related issues.

Human Resources

The Staff Council President (along with the Staff Council Vice President and Council Administrator) meets monthly with UVM's HR leadership team to discuss Council business and staff related issues.

UVM Board of Trustees

Executive Committee

The Staff Council President serves as a staff representative, is able to ask questions, but has no voting rights.

Committee of the Whole

The Council President provides a written Staff Council Report in advance of this thrice-yearly meeting, and a brief update at the meeting.

Honorary Degree Advisory Committee

The Honorary Degree Advisory Committee identifies those candidates who best meet the established criteria and places those recommendations before the UVM Board of Trustees at their May meeting. It is the University President’s authority to select the Commencement speaker, in consultation with the Advisory Committee. The Staff Council President is a voting member.

Convocation

The Staff Council President is a member of the platform party for the annual Convocation event, but does not make any official statements. This event generally occurs in late August.

Commencement

The Staff Council President is a member of the platform party at the May Commencement Ceremonies.

Reports

Officers' Report

The Staff Council Officers' Report provides a monthly summary of all the meetings that the Staff Council President, Vice President, or designee attends on behalf of the Staff Council. 

Report to the Board of Trustees

The Council President provides a written report in advance of this meeting and a brief update at the meeting.
