University of Vermont (UVM) campus in Burlington, Vermont served as the venue for the 12th International Conference on Computational Social Science (IC2S2) from July 28-31, 2026. Hosted by the Vermont Complex Systems Institute (VCSI) at UVM and supported in part by Vermont EPSCoR, the conference brought together from around the world hundreds of researchers, students, and practitioners to explore ways in which computational and data-intensive approaches are being used to address some of the biggest questions and problems in modern society.
 
SOCKS Co-PI Peter Dodds, PhD and External Advisory Committee member Timothy Tangherlini, PhD were among as general chairs for the conference. Local Chairs included SOCKS Co-PI Juniper Lovato, PhD, SOCKS Co-PI Chris Danforth, PhD, and SOCKS Capacity Team member Alexa Woodward, JD. SOCKS Capacity Team member Andi Elledge served as Poster Chair for the conference.

SOCKS Summer Undergraduate Interns attended the conference as part of their research experience in Vermont. The interns were able to observe and discuss scientific poster presentations, attend talks and grow their professional networking skills over the four-day event. Many SOCKS faculty, postdoctoral associates, graduate research assistants, and staff attended and presented their research to the global audience.

As an international conference, IC2S2 alternates between a site in the United States and a site abroad on a yearly basis. The conference will continue this pattern next year when it takes place in Milan, Italy.
