UVM Tuition Frozen for Fifth Consecutive Year; New Affordability Plan Introduced

Today, UVM’s board of trustees approved freezing tuition and fees at current rates for the fifth consecutive year, an initiative begun by President Suresh Garimella in 2019. Reinforcing the university’s commitment to affordability for Vermonters, Garimella also announced the “UVM Promise,” a new program that guarantees full-tuition scholarships to Vermont students in households with annual incomes of $60,000 or less.

President Garimella Speaks Out on Antisemitism

Antisemitism has been on the rise around the world, in the U.S., and on college campuses. “Sadly, UVM is not immune,” said President Suresh Garimella in a statement today. “While the impact of antisemitism is felt most directly by members of our Jewish community … antisemitism is an affront to us all, and leaves our entire community diminished.”

Trustees Adopt University Land Acknowledgment

Land acknowledgments play an important role in raising awareness of Indigenous people and their enduring relationship as stewards of these traditional territories. UVM’s land acknowledgment was crafted with thoughtful input from the Vermont Commission on Native American Affairs.

Proposed Campus Plan Emphasizes Sustainability

Trustees reviewed a new, proposed campus plan that will guide and inform planning of facilities and infrastructure for the next decade. Subject to board approval, the proposed plan focuses on upgrading older buildings to increase energy efficiency and integrating the built and natural environments.

Board Reviews Progress on Athletics Facilities, Approves Academic & Research Initiatives

Trustees received updates on construction completed to date on the Athletics Multi-Purpose Center and approved a PhD program in Social-Emotional and Behavioral Health and Inclusive Education in the Graduate College. The board also formalized the establishment of the Osher Center for Integrative Health.
