{"id":1897,"date":"2022-12-15T08:24:20","date_gmt":"2022-12-15T13:24:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.seagrant.w3.uvm.edu\/resource\/research-webinar-exploring-the-response-of-legacy-phosphorus-and-cyanobacteria-blooms-in-lake-carmi-to-whole-lake-aeration\/"},"modified":"2025-11-04T15:50:31","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T20:50:31","slug":"research-webinar-exploring-the-response-of-legacy-phosphorus-and-cyanobacteria-blooms-in-lake-carmi-to-whole-lake-aeration","status":"publish","type":"resource","link":"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/seagrant\/resource\/research-webinar-exploring-the-response-of-legacy-phosphorus-and-cyanobacteria-blooms-in-lake-carmi-to-whole-lake-aeration\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Webinar: Exploring the Response of Legacy Phosphorus and Cyanobacteria Blooms in Lake Carmi to Whole-Lake Aeration"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Lake Carmi was designated a \u201cLake in Crisis\u201d by the&nbsp;Vermont Agency of Natural Resources&nbsp;following years of high phosphorus concentrations and cyanobacteria blooms.&nbsp;In 2019, a whole-lake aeration system was installed to suppress legacy phosphorus release from the sediment.&nbsp;Using a combination of high frequency monitoring and sediment\/water sampling, the effects of intervention were&nbsp;observed in near real time&nbsp;and used to further inform management strategy&nbsp;over multiple years. While some of the project goals were met,&nbsp;the overall health of the lake was not improved.
