{"id":965,"date":"2022-02-23T08:39:45","date_gmt":"2022-02-23T13:39:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.seagrant.w3.uvm.edu\/2022\/02\/23\/monthly-podcast-shares-riparian-forest-restoration-research-and-practice\/"},"modified":"2025-10-22T17:49:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T21:49:13","slug":"monthly-podcast-shares-riparian-forest-restoration-research-and-practice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/seagrant\/2022\/02\/23\/monthly-podcast-shares-riparian-forest-restoration-research-and-practice\/","title":{"rendered":"Monthly Podcast Shares Riparian Forest Restoration Research and Practice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/seagrant\/outreach\/watershed-forestry-partnership\">Watershed Forestry Partnership<\/a> has released six episodes of its podcast, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/seagrant\/watershed-forestry-partnership\/restoration-roundup-podcast\">Restoration Roundup<\/a>,\u201d funded by an Education and Outreach grant from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lcbp.org\/\">Lake Champlain Basin Program<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/neiwpcc.org\/\">NEIWPCC<\/a>. The podcast, which began in September 2021, is aimed toward those who work on restoring riparian\u2014or stream- and riverside\u2014forests, as well as the general public, and shares research, stories, and best practices related to the management of riparian areas.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe idea for &#8220;Restoration Roundup&#8221; emerged from conversations\u00a0Alison Adams,\u00a0director of the podcast, had with riparian forest restoration practitioners when she began coordinating the Watershed Forestry Partnership. Practitioners expressed a desire to stay up-to-date on the latest happenings in restoration research and practice, while also describing extremely busy schedules. Adams thought that an audio-based format for sharing information and stories would be perfect and would allow\u00a0people to listen in their cars or even while planting trees in the field!<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAdams and a University of Vermont undergraduate student, Liz Woodhull, co-host the podcast, which is released on the last Wednesday of every month. Recent topics have included the impact of emerald ash borer on riparian forests, the ways in which riparian forests support pollinator\u00a0populations, and efforts to develop elm trees resistant to Dutch elm disease.
