Want\u00a0to provide technical assistance to\u00a0programs\u00a0while receiving on-the-job training?\u00a0Beginning\u00a0a graduate program\u00a0and ready to dive into fisheries research,\u00a0or know someone\u00a0who\u00a0is?<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOne of\u00a0three\u00a0prestigious\u00a0opportunities\u00a0currently open\u00a0through Lake Champlain Sea Grant\u00a0and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)\u00a0partners\u00a0may be\u00a0right for you\u00a0or someone you know.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>\n\tSea Grant Knauss\u00a0Marine Policy Fellowships<\/h3>\n<p>\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/seagrant\/knauss-marine-policy-fellow\">Sea Grant Knauss Fellows<\/a>\u00a0are matched with executive or legislative offices\u00a0in\u00a0Washington, DC\u00a0to research, develop, and administer policy. These\u00a0one-year, paid fellowships for graduate students interested in ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes resources and national policy decisions\u00a0open the door to policy work in the US.\u00a0Lake Champlain Sea Grant has supported three successful candidates in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u2022\u00a0Eligibility:\u00a0U.S. citizens\u00a0who will complete a master\u2019s or other advanced degree at an accredited U.S. university between August 1, 2021, and July 31, 2023. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u2022\u00a0Applications are due January 27, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cI engage in ocean policy at various levels, including helping to create a national ocean climate action plan for draft release in early 2023. Soon! Also this year, I participated in trainings regarding facilitation, budget, communications, and on specialized topics such as offshore wind,\u201d said Caitlin Feehery,\u00a0current\u00a0Sea Grant Knauss Marine Policy Fellow\u00a0in the\u00a0Policy and Constituent Affairs Division\u00a0of NOAA\u2019s\u00a0National Ocean Service\u00a0and graduate of Vermont Law School. \u201cDuring this Fellowship, I have developed skills that help me find solutions for different problems and issues, and I participate in longer-term strategic planning and policy creation. As a Fellow, I have been able lead initiatives and provide meaningful input into high-level discussions and decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>\n\tCoastal Management and Digital Coast\u00a0Fellowships<\/h3>\n<p>\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/seagrant\/coastal-management-and-digital-coast-fellowship\">Coastal Management and Digital Coast Fellowships<\/a>\u00a0match\u00a0postgraduate students to work on projects proposed by state coastal zone management programs and selected by NOAA. There\u00a0are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/coast.noaa.gov\/fellowship\/coastalmanagement.html\">five\u00a0coastal management<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/coast.noaa.gov\/fellowship\/digitalcoast.html\">three\u00a0digital coast<\/a>\u00a0project\u00a0placements\u00a0up for competition this year.\u00a0Examples of projects include\u00a0helping Maine\u2019s vulnerable coastal communities implement Maine\u2019s Climate Action Plan,\u00a0increasing equity and environmental justice while supporting the use, preservation, and expansion of shoreline public access in\u00a0Washington\u00a0state, and\u00a0developing\u00a0technical guidance resources to support local communities in planning for and managing residential coastal properties acquired\u00a0or vacated due to erosion, inundation, and flooding worsened by climate change\u00a0in Washington, DC. As projects range widely, applicants from a wide variety of programs will be considered.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u2022\u00a0Eligibility:\u00a0U.S. citizens\u00a0who will complete a master\u2019s or other advanced degree at an accredited U.S. university between August 1, 2021, and July 31, 2023. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u2022\u00a0Applications are due January 27, 2023.<\/p>\n<h3>\n\tNational Marine Fisheries\u00a0Service\u2014Sea Grant Joint Fellowships<\/h3>\n<p>\n\tNOAA Fisheries and Sea Grant collaborate to offer three-years of support to five incoming PhD students\u00a0in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/seagrant\/national-marine-fisheries-service-sea-grant-joint-fellowships\">NMFS\u2014Sea Grant Fellowship<\/a>. This year, four fellowships will be awarded in\u00a0population and ecosystem dynamics and one in marine resource economics.\u00a0Students will work with both their PhD advisors and a scientist at a NOAA Fisheries Science Center.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u2022\u00a0Eligibility:\u00a0U.S. citizens who are graduate students enrolled in or\u00a0provisionally accepted to Ph.D. degree programs in academic institutions in the United States and its territories.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u2022\u00a0Applications are due January 25, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFor all of these fellowships, Sea Grant\u00a0champions diversity, equity, and inclusion\u00a0(DEI).
