Click on any of\u00a0the spring 2023\u00a0webinars\u00a0listed below for more information and to register.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/seagrant\/programs\/events\/research-webinar-tools-balance-stakeholder-objectives-%C2%A0restoration-and-conservation\">Tools to Balance Objectives for\u00a0Restoration and Conservation of Floodplains in the Lake Champlain Basin<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n\tOn <strong>January 25<\/strong>, Rebecca Diehl, Professor of Geography, and Kristen Underwood, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, both at the University of Vermont (UVM), will present floodplain management decision-making tools and discuss the many factors influencing decision-makers\u2019 perspectives. Both Diehl and Underwood conduct research funded by Lake Champlain Sea Grant, the state of Vermont, and others, to develop tools that help decision-makers, including landowners and managers, manage floodplains for multiple social benefits, including water quality and flood control.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/seagrant\/programs\/events\/research-webinar-methodology-matters-modifying-vermont-lay-monitoring-program\">Methodology Matters &#8211; Modifying the Vermont Lay Monitoring Program to Improve Lake Assessment<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong>February 22<\/strong>, Mark Mitchell, Lake Monitoring and Community Outreach Coordinator for Lake Champlain Sea Grant and the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, will discuss proposed modifications in sampling methodologies of the Vermont Lay Monitoring Program that aim to improve lake assessment. Mitchell works on the Vermont Lay Monitoring Program, which conducts periodic water sampling and trains the public about water quality in more than 100 of Vermont\u2019s lakes.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/seagrant\/programs\/events\/research-webinar-three-dimensional-habitat-occupancy-wild-juvenile-and-stocked-adult\">Nature vs Nurture: How Does Hatchery Rearing Influence Fish Behavior After Release?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n\tOn <strong>March 29<\/strong>, Matt Futia, a fish ecologist and PhD candidate with the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources at UVM, will describe how habitat use differs between stocked and wild lake trout and how such variation may influence the future of the population. Futia and Professor Ellen Marsden, also of the UVM Rubenstein School, examine factors that affect early survival, recruitment, and behavior of wild juvenile and adult lake trout that may be critical for establishment of a self-sustaining population in Lake Champlain with funds provided through Lake Champlain Sea Grant and partners.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/seagrant\/programs\/events\/research-webinar-seven-years-data-buoy-observations\u2014impacts-climate-and-weather-lake\">Seven Years of Data Buoy Observations\u2014Impacts of Climate and Weather on Lake Champlain<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong>April 26<\/strong>, Eric Leibensperger, a physics professor at Ithaca College, and formerly at SUNY Plattsburgh, will present data and analysis from \u00a0Lake Champlain buoys. In 2019 with support from Lake Champlain Sea Grant, Leibensperger began buoy data collection to study the occurrence and impacts of upwelling events in the South Main Lake region of Lake Champlain.
