Get ready for fall semester move-in! Check your email in mid-August for complete housing assignment information. When you arrive, stop by the main desk of your residential complex to check in and get your room key.

 

Incoming students move in on Friday, and current students return on Sunday.

We do not typically house students before opening day.

  • Normal exceptions are students here early for TREK, student workers, and pre-season athletes.
  • Contact us if you have extenuating circumstances that prevent you from moving in on your scheduled day.
  • Please note that our offices and main desks are closed the Saturday of opening weekend.

AUGUST OPENING: FRIDAY MOVE-IN DETAILS

Our wonderful Welcome Crew of UVM student, faculty, and staff volunteers will be on hand to greet you, and help you unload and move in! To help manage traffic on this busy day, when you get your room assignment, you will receive a specific move-in time based on your assignment location. Be sure to print and display this information on your windshield. Friday arrival times are:

AUGUST OPENING: SUNDAY MOVE-IN DETAILS

Sunday is a much quieter move-in day and traffic congenstion is minimal. Students moving in on Sunday are welcome to check in at their complex main desk anytime between 8 a.m.-8 p.m.

THANKSGIVING BREAK

Halls close 8 p.m. the Friday before Thanksgiving and reopen at 8 a.m. the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Check occupancy dates for details.

PREPARE FOR THANKSGIVING BREAK

  • Need to stay one extra night? No problem! Request a one-night late stay (at no extra charge) at myResLife.
  • Need to stay for break? No problem. Read more about academic breaks and sign up in myResLife.
  • Take all belongings that you may need. Residence halls will be closed until the Sunday after break.
  • Mail will not be sorted or distributed during break.
  • Remove perishables, dispose of trash, and recycle.
  • Set the temperature in your room to 65 or an equivalent setting.
  • Unplug all electrical devices except refrigerators and fish tanks.
  • Make sure your refrigerator is plugged directly into a wall outlet; otherwise it will be unplugged.
  • Close and lock all windows and your door.
  • Sign the checksheet on your door.
  • Our staff will enter all student rooms to verify safety guidelines have been met.
  • Policy violations will be documented and referred through the student conduct process.

DECEMBER CLOSING/WINTER BREAK MOVE-OUT

Hall close for the semester on the last day of final exams. For details, check occupancy dates.

  • Need to stay for any or all of break? No problem. Read more about academic breaks and sign up in myResLife.
  • Take all belongings that you may need. Residence halls will be closed until the Sunday after break.

  • Set the temperature in your room to 65 or an equivalent setting.

  • Close and lock all windows and your door door.

JANUARY OPENING & SPRING SEMESTER MOVE-IN

In January, we welcome new spring admits and new transfer students (please check your email for specific arrival dates and times). Current students return to campus as early as 8 a.m. the Sunday before classes begin. For details, see occupancy dates.

When you arrive, please check in at the main desk of your residential complex. Read your UVM email in early January for specific arrival information.

MAY MOVE-OUT

Halls close at 8 p.m. the same day as the last exam. For details, see occupancy dates.

WHEN TO LEAVE

In accordance with your housing and meal plan contract, you are required to check out of and vacate your room 24 hours after your last scheduled exam or by the date indicated in Occupancy Dates, whichever comes first.

  • Graduating seniors and students moving to summer housing assignments are eligible to stay one extra week, but must request it at myResLife.
  • Students will be billed a $50 late-checkout charge if they stay late without permission, or do not move out by 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

 

HELPFUL HINTS

  • We do not have summer storage. Please make arrangements early with a local storage facility.
  • Need to mail items home? UVM Print & Mail Center offers a convenient pack and ship-home service and will be on-site in specific residence halls during the week of closing. Contact PMC at 802.656.5886.
  • Recycle unopened food, clothing, etc. in specially marked boxes in the lobby. Recycle glass, aluminum, tin in containers on your floor. Put unwanted electronic items in the Techno Trash bin near your complex desk.
  • Take unwanted furniture or other large items outside to the Take it or Leave It area.
  • Bikes are removed from racks & storage rooms the week after commencement. Please take your bike with you!
  • Mail Forwarding: During the summer, your first-class mail and magazines will be forwarded to your permanent address. Want your summer mail to go elsewhere? Update your address in myUVM before moveout day (click on the "personal information" link within myUVM).

 

PREPARE YOUR ROOM

  • Before you leave, we strongly recommend you have your RA look at your room to help identify any possible problem areas. RAs do not have the final say on what you may or may not be billed for, but they can be very helpful in pointing out any big problems. After halls close, professional staff will inspect all rooms. You may be billed for any changes to the room’s condition from the time you moved in.
  • A FINAL CHECKLIST will be posted on your door. Please follow all instructions on it.
  • CHECKOUT & KEY RETURN: Check out at your main desk.  If the desk is closed, please use an express checkout envelope and follow all directions. Your student account will be billed for any unreturned keys (Sorry, due to quick key prep for summer conference season, we are not able to accept mailed-back keys.)

 

END-OF-YEAR CHARGES

  • Room damage charges are billed to your student account in mid-June. We will notify you via email of any assigned damage charges with instructions on how to appeal them. Damage appeal deadline is June 30.
  • Other possible charges are key, equipment, or late/improper-checkout charges.
