Alexander YinThe Office of Institutional Research (OIR) gathers, analyzes, interprets, and distributes most of the student, faculty, staff, salary and curricular information in support of the budget, management, planning, and policy activities of the University. In addition, OIR publishes routine annual reports; responds to special requests; conducts survey research as well as cohort, salary and demographic analysis; provides statistical modeling expertise; and generates enrollment projections.


Alex Yin, serves as the Executive Director of Institutional Research. Prior to joining the University of Vermont, Alex was a Senior Planning and Research Associate in the Department of Planning and Institutional Research at The Pennsylvania State University where he supported the institutional research, planning, and strategic decision-making needs of the institution.

He has expertise and experience in leading and supporting university-wide efforts including General Education assessment, improving retention and graduation rates, decreasing time to degree, and the collection and reporting of post-graduation outcomes. Alex has strong technical and statistical skills; a vision for an adaptable and proactive Office of Institutional Research; and a commitment to producing sustainable, timely, reliable and valid data analysis that creates and promotes a culture of data-driven decision-making.

Alex, a native of New Hampshirite, received a Ph.D. in Higher Education and Master of Applied Statistics from The Pennsylvania State University. He also holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, both from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
