We would love to meet you and look forward to you visiting our beautiful campus!  If you haven't already done so, please consider meeting us on your admitted students tour or visit the UVM Admissions staff when they come to your town.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there many queer and trans students on campus?

Yes.  Queer and trans students and their allies are all over campus. There is a queer presence in many student clubs & organizations, queer-themed housing program, and a busy calendar of LGBTQ+ events and programs for all to enjoy.  Contact us to find out more about any of this and check out our resources, programs and events, and social media pages.

Is there a vibrant presence of queer faculty and staff?

Yes.  We and other UVM community members are often able to connect students to LGBTQ+ faculty and staff mentors and support staff.

Is there LGBTQ+ housing options and gender inclusive spaces?

Yes.  UVM's Office of Residential Life works with the Prism Center to offer LGBTQ+ community-building or safer housing options for its LGBTQ+ students.  Housing options can also be sorted according to whether the program or building offers gender inclusive restrooms.

As an incoming student, are there ways to get connected to other LGBTQ+ students before school starts?

Yes.  Aside from Summer Orientation, UVM offers an optional LGBTQ+ affinity, pre-move-in experience that provides a supportive and affirming space to explore the mountains of the North Country on a 5-day hike through Vermont's back country.  The program offers scholarships.  To learn more about the UVM Trek program visit their website. Since this program is operated by the Office of Student Life, please direct questions about UVM Trek to trek@uvm.edu

Have other questions?  Contact us!  We would be more than happy to address your questions.

Our Space

Allen house exterior

The Prism Center is located inside of Allen House, a historic building constructed in 1838 that is also home to the Center for Cultural Pluralism.  We maintain several areas including: The David Bohnet Cyber Center, which offers four computers for student use and low-cost printing; the Resource Lending Library containing LGBTQ+ books, and the Student Lounge where students can gather, study, play games, enjoy coffee, tea, and snacks, or simply hang out and relax.

The student lounge can also be used to hold group meetings and gatherings. Contact us to reserve time in your space.
