After successfully participating in the Health Professions Portfolio+ process and Readiness Assessment Discussion, you are ready to submit your application to medical or dental school.

Medical, dental, and osteopathic medical schools use centralized application services, which simplifies the application process.

Application Services

Typically, students submit their applications to medical and dental school during the summer one year before they wish to start a program. The American Medical College Application Services (AMCAS) is the centralized application system for medical schools, while the ADEA Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS) is the centralized system for dental schools. Osteophatic medical schools use the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Application Service (AACOMAS). While requirements vary amongst the three application services, you will likely need to submit the following:

Interviews

Most schools hold their interviews during the winter and early spring, but the timeline for preparing to interview for medical or dental school often begins before you receive an invitation to meet with representatives from a specific program. Staying curious about the field, reflecting on your experiences and goals, and practicing how you tell your story is an ongoing process. Interviews also provide a chance for you to learn more about the schools you have applied to - be sure to consider what you would like to know more about each program you interview with.

Choosing a program

If you are accepted to multiple programs, the final step of the process will be determing which school to attend. Consider factors like the coursework, clinical experiences, notable faculty, research opportunities, program costs, location, and data about a program's residency placements. It is your responsibility to be aware of each school's deadline for indicating your intent to enroll.
