Early EXtra Promotion of REsearch & Scholarly Success

OPEN — Proposals are now being accepted

This program is accepting applications through October 14th, 2022.

Description

OVPR EXPRESS (Early EXtra Promotion of REsearch and Scholarly Success) is an internal, competitive funding program designed to stimulate research and scholarship by new junior faculty members. Specifically, the EXPRESS program will provide awards up to $3,000 to newly hired UVM tenure-track assistant professors. The goal is that these awards will aid, within the first year of appointment, initiation of the research, scholarship, and creative works that will propel the careers of junior faculty recipients.

Requirement for Computational Research Funded by OVPR

For computational research at UVM, we offer the services of the Vermont Advanced Computing Core (VACC). The core has multiple clusters to provide high-performance computing to faculty, staff and students.

Use of the VACC for internally funded grants is required for funding unless the PI submits a written request (to be reviewed by the OVPR) that explains why this core facility is not adequate to suit his/her research need. If you do not currently have an account with the VACC, you must contact vacc@uvm.edu and specify your needs. The VACC Team will assist you with the setup of an account.

Eligibility

OVPR EXPRESS is open to UVM tenure-track assistant professors who began their appointment with UVM on January 1, 2022 or later.

Amount and Duration

For 2022-2023, applicant budgets up to $3,000 will be considered. Award decisions will be made by November 18, 2022. Funds are available on December 1, 2022, and are required to be expended by June 30, 2023. (No-cost extension requests are typically not considered)

How to Appy

Applicants must provide a one-page description and a one-page budget of how the funds would be used if awarded, and how the use of the funds will help jumpstart the research or scholarship of the applicant. (Please note that regular salary or summer salary, and conference fees, travel, and registration costs are not acceptable budget items. All other budget items must be justified in the description.) There are no specific review criteria; use your text to provide the most compelling case in favor of your proposal.

Applicants must also provide an abbreviated CV or resume of no more than four pages and a letter of support from their department chair or school dean, certifying that the applicant meets the criteria and that the department or school will allow the junior faculty member the time necessary to participate.
