Mission Statement Vision
Statement
We believe a healthy student organization values involvement from all identity groups. We believe a healthy community is diverse, inclusive and celebrates what makes each of us unique. We believe wilderness experience is tied to care for the environment, commitment to social justice and ultimately to the health of our global community. We are committed to making the OC community as welcoming as possible, especially to historically under represented groups. We value a growing community that includes students from diverse backgrounds in regard to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity & expression, and class. We include diversity training as part of our Wilderness Instructor Leadership Development (WILD) training curriculum. OC leaders are dedicated to creating a safe and fun environment for all UVM students to engage in wilderness based peer education. |

Outing Club 2009 Information To the UVM Community- Here we are! If
you came to the UVM OC website
because you want to find out how you can
utilize the Outing Club to create some fun and adventure in your
weekends, you are in luck! Participation in OC trips and classes
requires no prior experience or knowledge of backcountry travel and
activity (other than certain technical trips, noted on the schedule).
We are looking for students interested in developing wilderness living
skills, leadership skills, exploring the wild areas of New England (and
beyond) and simply having tons of fun! This semester
we want to emphasize that no matter how strong your appetite for the
outdoors is or what shape it takes, the Outing Club is here to feed
it. On the "Trip Sched" page you will find information about
trips you can sign up for; day hikes, overnight backpacking trips,
snowshoeing and mountaineering trips, telemark ski lessons, backcountry
ski and riding trips, ice climbing, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking,
and more. Come with friends or, more commonly, come alone and
meet some new folks you never would have spent such an epic weekend
with otherwise. We know it’s
easy to get caught up in the weekends…but (believe it or not) what the
club offers goes beyond the many trips heading out every Friday and
Saturday. Want to plan a trip of your own? Stop by the
house; you’ll find endless map and skills resources and get route
suggestions from house managers on duty and leaders streaming in and
out throughout the day. Ready to try your hand at something
new? We rent all kinds of gear, from snowshoes to sleeping bags
and packs to stoves and canoes (and much much more)! Looking for
a peaceful location to host a club retreat? Take a look at our
Bolton Cabin availability and talk to us about reserving a
weekend. Is it simply a happy, motivated community of students
that’s on your radar for the semester? Get to know the leaders
and recent trip participants at Monday night Club Council meetings (5
o’clock upstairs) and consider applying for one of our instructional
classes. Let us know if you’d like a leader to visit your
club meeting to answer questions and get information on group
activities you’re looking for. There’s one
unvarying quality related to this grab bag of options; WE WANT YOUR
FEEDBACK! Send us an email, give the house a call, or fill out a
trip evaluation sheet; your honest opinion is our only gauge as to how
successfully we provide you with backcountry hoots and hollers.
In short, come out and play some weekend; give us the chance to show
you what we’ve got and you’ll be knockin’ down the door for more. See you on the
trail- Jake, Rachel & the Outing Club Leader Community
