UVM Orientation is planning a summer of comprehensive, virtual events intentionally themed to help introduce you to your new campus, connect you with your peers, and navigate the multitude of resources that are now (literally) at your fingertips.

Whether you are a first year or a transfer student, this page will have all of the information you need to navigate the summer before your in-person orientation in August!

SUMMER 2022 ORIENTATION ROADMAP

New Student Orientation will be held in-person on August 24-28, however, we have a summer full of virtual resources intentionally planned to prepare you for your time at UVM. 

MAY: Welcome & Introductions

Let’s get started. This month is all about preparing you for the Summer!

Start your Academic Journey. This week, you’ll hear from your Academic Dean.

MAY 10 - June 6
Register for an Academic Overview Session
- A great introduction prior to registering for fall classes, your overview session will help you feel even more prepared for course registration in June.

Family members are invited to join.

JUNE: Courses & Communities

Let’s get settled. This month, you’ll be required to have a virtual 1:1 and/or small-group course registration advising session where you’ll finalize your fall courses.

JUNE 1 – 12
Schedule Your Course Registration Advising Appointment - As of June 1, you are eligible to register for your individual Course Registration Advising Appointment. You may sign up anytime before June 13. Details about signing up for your course registration advising appointment - which will occur between June 13-July 8 (exact dates vary by college/school) will come to your UVM email.

Transfer students - your academic unit will be in touch about scheduling fall courses.

JUNE 6 – 10
Virtual Academic Overview Sessions - Learn more about your academic program and the requirements of your school or college. These sessions prepare you for your virtual Course Registration Advising Appointment. Families are welcome to attend sessions alongside their students for information.

JUNE 13 – JULY 8
Virtual Course Registration Advising Appointments (Students Only) - Ready, set, register! You’ll meet with an academic advisor to finalize your fall course schedule. Exact dates vary by college or school.

Instructions on how to schedule or confirm your appointment time will be sent to your UVM email.

Transfer students - You will hear from your College Student Services office directly to set up your appointment (likely in late June, depending on your admittance date). Keep an eye on your UVM email for more details.

JUNE 15, 7:00 - 8:00 PM EDT
Navigating Financial Matters - Part 1: We understand that the financial aspect of attending university can be overwhelming. Join representatives from our Student Financial Services office who will share information on the billing and financial aid processes for the new first-year and transfer students entering UVM in the Fall 2022 semester.

Virtual Orientation Leader Rally (Students Only)- Join us for our first Orientation Leader Rally! Learn more about Orientation at UVM and meet with the Orientation Leaders. We will also hear from the Office of Sustainability and Eco Reps.

Let’s connect. This month, you're invited to continue our Virtual OL Rally sessions! During this time you can ask current students anything about their experience, and we’ll begin to envision your arrival on campus in August!

Student Success, a Family Guide- Co-presented by Vice Provost for Student Affairs Erica Caloiero and Assistant Dean of Students Joe Russell, this session for parents and families will assist you in supporting your student through their college experience.

Navigating Financial Matters - Part 2: We understand that you may have financial questions – and Student Financial Services has the answers! Now that fall bills have gone out, join representatives from our Student Financial Services office who will go through your top billing and financial aid questions to make your financial journey easier to navigate.

The Residential Experience - This session is designed for students and families to understand what the residential experience at UVM will entail. We’ll discuss the first six weeks of the semester, our staff and student RAs, exciting programming throughout the halls, and our role as a major extra-curricular experience outside of the classroom.

AUGUST: Readiness & Arrival

Let’s get ready. This month, we want you to feel prepared and excited to join us on campus for UVM Orientation!

The Big Reveal:
Learn your Orientation team! You will be with this group for the entirety of your Orientation experience, competeing against your fellow new student teams. Your Orientation Leaders will support your team throughout the weekend. Keep an eye on your UVM email!

Key Dates

AUGUST 1
Pre-orientation trainings – empower, prepare, and educate yourself about important issues in our community through interactive trainings. These required courses are:
• AlcoholEdu for College
• Mental Wellbeing for College
• Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduate Students
• Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging for Students

Courses open on August 1. The deadline to complete all courses is August 28.

AUGUST 3, 7:00 - 8:00 PM EDT
Now you know! - Scheduled after housing assignments are released, this session will address commonly asked questions about contacting roommate(s), billing, the adjustment period after move-in, developing roommate agreements, our 2022 housing reassignment policies, and more.

Preparing for Move-In - Want to know what furniture is in your room? What kind of appliances you can bring? In this session, we’ll go over specific details about our rooms and facilities, the dos and don’ts of move-in, and the check-in process once you arrive. We know you have questions — join us for helpful information and tips as you prepare for the big day!

Virtual Orientation Leader Rally (Students Only)- You are at the end of the Road(map)! Meet with the Orientation Leaders one last time before arrival. Ask any last minute questions you may have about Orientation!

AUGUST 24 or 25
Time to Move-in! - You received your specific Move-in Date in your Learning Community Placement email. Please note that students moving in on the 25th will receive the same Orientation content as those on the 24th. We rotate Orientation programs to accomodate both move-in dates. Feel free to get in touch with ResLife@uvm.edu with any questions related to Move-In.

AUGUST 24 - 28
And now... the moment we've all been waiting for! Once move-in is completed, Orientation will begin. The weekend will be full of programming for you to connect with your Orientation groups and other new students to build community and get to know campus better before the start of classes.
