If not arriving early, Families check in between 8:00am – 10:00am on the first day of the session at the University Heights complex, the residence hall adjacent to student check-in.

The program begins promptly at 10:30am with the University Welcome at the Dudley H. Davis Center. Campus bus tours will run in the morning prior to the start of the University Welcome – leave time to relax and ride with an experienced Orientation Leader.


Early Arrival

For students and families/guests who have payed the early arrival fees in their registration, check-in will be available from 3:00 - 11:00pm at the Harris / Millis Complex on the day before the session. If you are unable to arrive prior to 11:00pm, call the phone number posted on the door to Harris/Millis to gain access to the building. Students will be housed in their assigned room for Orientation, and families/guests signed up for housing will be housed in their session room(s) as well.

Pizza and beverages will be provided for dinner for Early Arrivals.  Breakfast the next day is not included in meal package or Early Arrival costs. You may purchase something to eat before the Welcome at the Harris/Millis Dining Hall or CATPause Store in the Davis Center.


Packing List

  • A government-issued photo ID (Driver's license, Military ID, Passport, etc) – you will need this to get your University ID - the CATcard. High school IDs are not accepted.
  • A Pillow
  • A sleeping bag, sheets, or blankets - your room will not have linens.
  • A Towel
  • A fan (optional - the Harris/Millis Complex is not air-conditioned).
  • Pen
  • Notepad
  • Clothes - pack for all possibilities (VT weather is unpredictable and events are indoors and outdoors)
  • Umbrella
  • Comfortable shoes
  • An open mind! Be prepared to ask questions, meet some wonderful people and learn about your University.

When driving from the north or south on Interstate 89, take exit 14W. Proceed 1/2 mile west of the UVM campus. Take the first right after the entrance to the Sheraton Hotel and then veer immediately left, around the 'jug handle' toward Spear Street. The Harris/Millis Residential Complex is one block south on Spear Street (exit from right lane).

When driving from the south on U.S. Route 7, enter Burlington on Route 7. Turn right onto Route 2 (Main Street). Proceed on Main Street through four stoplights. At the fifth stoplight (the intersection of Main Street and Spear Street/East Avenue), turn right onto Spear Street. Take the first right into the Harris/Millis Residential Complex.



Parking is provided free of charge in the Gutterson Garage (See it on a Map) adjacent to the Harris/Millis Residential Complex.

What if I arrive late on the morning of my session?

You will still check in at Harris/Millis. From there the Orientation staff will direct you to where you need to go.

I need to arrive early. What do I do?

If you are traveling a long distance or are an Honors College student and require housing the night before your session, please indicate your need for early arrival when you register for your session. The cost for early arrival covers your extra night of housing, food, and staffing.
