The UVM Autism Collaborative is a group of autistic people, families, caregivers, researchers and clinicians, working together to improve the quality of life for autistic people everywhere.

We believe:

  • Health care should focus on the family. This is known as "family-centered care".
  • Care should concentrate on the quality of life and community inclusion of those on the autism spectrum and their caregivers.
  • Our goals will be achieved through interdisciplinary practice. This translates to multiple health care providers from many different backgrounds working together to achieve the same goals.

Our Mission

We are dedicated to improving quality of life for autistic people. We strive to collaborate across disciplines and involve all stakeholders, especially those on the autism spectrum, their families, and friends.

Download our new fact sheet about the UVM Autism Collaborative (.pdf). It features updated contact information and a summary of services, and is perfect for sharing with medical and administrative teams, as well as families new to our services.

Our Structure

The UVM Autism Collaborative is housed at the Center on Disability & Community Inclusion (CDCI) in the College of Education and Social Services, at the University of Vermont. This allows us to draw support from CDCI's infrastructure team, as well interacting with and being sustained by the work of other scholars at the University of Vermont.

Additionally, siting the Collaborative at the University of Vermont provides us with the support of the UVM Institutional Research Board (IRB), UVM Sponsored Project Administration, and an institutional connection to the UVM Medical Center research network.

Future Projects

  • Stakeholder event
  • Checklist containing advice from families and self-advocates regarding autism research design
  • Additional grant submissions
  • Video modeling resources

Funding

The UVM Autism Collaborative is a joint project of the UVM Center on Disability & Community Inclusion (CDCI), the UVM College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and the UVM Medical Center.
