Geospatial Technician

Spencer Karins is a geospatial technician and licensed drone pilot at the Rubenstein School's Spatial Analysis Laboratory (SAL). They joined the SAL in June 2019 as the Unoccupied Aircraft Systems (UAS) intern. In their current role, Spencer performs quality control on geospatial data from several types of imagery, as well as training and managing other technicians. Spencer combines their experience in GIS analysis and drone operation by working with a variety of remote sensing software and unoccupied aircraft platforms, including both fixed-wing and quadcopter UAS.

Spencer graduated from the University of Vermont in 2020 with a B.S. in Environmental Sciences and minor in Geospatial Technologies. Spencer has worked on a variety of mapping projects including tree canopy change assessments, full landcover mapping, and aquatic invasive plant monitoring.
