A double major in history and political science—“I’m one of those students who stuck with my declared majors since freshman year”—Calvao also completed a pair of summer internships in Washington, D.C., one in the office of Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal and one with Connecticut 4th District House Representative Jim Himes. “You could say it gave me a bicameral experience,” Calvao says. She also spent a semester abroad during her junior year at Vesalius College in Brussels. “When I was looking at colleges I felt as though UVM was large enough to provide a lot of opportunities but small enough to get to know professors as mentors. I can honestly say with gratitude and certainty that a lot of my experiences can be attributed to the encouragement and mentorship I've received from numerous faculty.”
