Diana E. Popa holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics (2005) and came to UVM in 2014 after already achieving a tenured position at a Romanian university. Diana initially worked for the Global Gateway Program (College of Education and Social Services) and then joined the Department of Linguistics (College of Arts and Sciences). While at UVM, she has taught at both undergraduate and graduate levels in three different departments. Diana is widely published and serves as editor/reviewer for several scholarly journals. Her research interests focus on discourse analysis, applied linguistics, language pedagogy argumentation and debate. As a researcher, she leverages quantitative and qualitative data to explore the linguistic, pragmatic, cultural and social factors that lead to language acquisition and use in multimodal contexts.
