Wolff, fellow professor of economics Jane Knodell, and associate professor Nathalie Mathieu-Bolh served as inspiring and accessible faculty mentors who always seemed to have their doors open.

“I work with a lot of people who went to schools where professors were very focused on their research and undergraduate classes taught largely by adjuncts,” Tweed says. “I feel fortunate to have been afforded the opportunity to develop close relationships with three very accessible professors in the department. When I wanted to engage with subject material I could seek them out and have involved conversations with them.”

After graduation Tweed moved to New York City to work as an analyst in structured credit for Citigroup and has since moved into distressed corporate debt.

Tweed says he still wants to pursue a PhD in economics someday. For now he’s getting his feet wet in the finance industry to help guide his future choices. Meanwhile, he still stays in touch with his UVM mentors.

“They opened a lot of doors for me. They epitomize the importance of undergraduate teaching at UVM.”
