Military Science Instructor/Operations Officer

CPT Wesley Champlin was born in 1970, in Memphis TN, and raised in Thousand Oaks, CA.  He graduated from Thousand Oaks High School in 1988.

CPT Champlin entered military service in 2009 through Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA.  He completed the Transportation Basic Officer Course at Fort Eustis, VA, in June 2010 and reported to his first duty station at Fort Knox, KY.  His first assignment was with E Forward Support Company, attached to 2-2 IN BN.  From July 2010 to March 2012, he served as the Distribution Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and Battalion Maintenance Officer.  With this company, he deployed to Afghanistan in January 2011.  His next assignment was with HHC, 201st Brigade Support Battalion.  He served as the Company Executive Officer from April 2012 to November 2012.  During this time, he was selected to be a part of the Security Force Advise and Assist Team (SFAAT) being formed.  In November 2012, he attended the SFAAT Academy at Fort Polk, LA.  After successfully completing the academy, he was assigned to the SFAAT team attached to B Battery, 1-6 Field Artillery Regiment.  He deployed to Afghanistan in 2013 as the SFAAT S4.  Prior to redeploying, he was promoted to Captain.  In April 2014, he attended the Combined Logistics Captain’s Career Course at Fort Lee, VA.  In December 2014, he reported to the 1st Armor Division Sustainment Brigade at Fort Bliss, TX, where he served for four months as the SPO Mobility (Ground) Officer.  He deployed to Afghanistan and served as the Section Chief for the Operational Contract Support cell.  Because of his work, he was selected to be a speaker and an observer/controller at the Joint Operational Contract Support Exercise at Fort Bliss in March 2016. In August 2016, he took the reigns as the Company Commander for HHC, 501st Brigade Support Battalion.  He served in this position for 21 months.

CPT Champlin’s military education includes Combatives Level I, Unit Movement Officer course, Operational Contract Support course, Transportation Basic Officer Leader Course, and Combined Logistics Captain’s Career Course.  His civilian education includes Bachelor of Science in Accounting from California Lutheran University and Master of Business Administration from the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University.

CPT Champlin’s awards and decorations include Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation (1 OLC), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (3 combat stars), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Medal (2), NATO Medal, and Combat Action Badge.

CPT Champlin is married to the former Jill Ann Lehman of Cleveland, OH.  They have four children; Adam, Logan, Connor, and Rachel.
