Overall Objectives: This workshop will cover updated recruiting practices and procedures that support the University's goal of achieving a diverse and inclusive workforce and assure compliance with federal regulations.

This training is also for anyone who is, or will be, participating in a faculty or staff search committee. We will cover best practices for conducting an affirmative search process that is fair, consistent, welcoming, and efficient. The session will also address how we can consider diversity and inclusion in a meaningful way during the search process.

Learning Outcomes

  • List the essential elements of a successful search
  • Describe strategies for building diverse pools
  • Describe effective, fair interview practices
  • Discuss objective selection best practices and strategies, including discussion of unconscious bias
  • Provide tools and sample materials designed to assist hiring officials and committees

Overall Objectives: Learn about the origins and definitions of antiSemitism and how it shows up on individual, cultural, and systemic levels.  Presented by Rabbi David Edleson, D. Div, Rabbi at Temple Sinai in South Burlington and instructor of religion, ethics, and literature at the college level for over twenty years.

This presentation is part of an ongoing series helping equip and empower the UVM community to engage more comfortably and competently with spirituality and religion in our life and work on campus.

Learning Outcomes

  • Learn about the origins and definitions of antiSemitism and how it shows up on individual, cultural, and systemic levels.
  • Consider what questions, concerns, challenges, and needs might be present for Jewish students, staff, and faculty at UVM given the realities of antiSemitism.
  • Identify ways they might play an active role in creating a university environment (e.g., in their classroom, with their colleagues) that not only stops harm, but enables Jewish individuals the ability to bring their full selves to their work, studies, and relationships at UVM.
