Retreats
Racial Aikido Retreat
Racial Aikido is an annual free retreat that was created by the ALANA Student Center and the Center for Cultural Pluralism in 2006. The retreat is facilitated by UVM staff of color for self-identifying students of color only. Racial Aikido seeks to prepare students of color with the knowledge and skills to understand their racial identities and learn various ways to combat racial microaggressions.
Women of Color Leadership Retreat
The annual Women of Color Leadership Retreat's intention is to provide a space for undergraduate, graduate, and professional staff and faculty to explore these questions while also taking time to strengthen our community and nurture authenticity through self-exploration.

A Black Lives Matter Flag Dedication 2020
In 2016, UVM was the first institution of higher education in the United States to fly the Black Lives Matter (BLM) flag. Since then, thousands of other institutions across the country have followed our lead. After the first BLM flag flown was stolen, our community came together to hoist a second BLM flag handmade by former Director of Student Life Pat Brown and his wife Amy Huntington. The BLM flag will be prominently displayed in the University’s Mosaic Center for Students of Color to signify UVM’s continued commitment and dedication to Honoring Black lives.
