Assistant Professor of Military Science / Contractor

Michael J. Newton is a Contractor serving as an MS II Instructor for UVM Army ROTC.  Prior to joining the Green Mountain Battalion in September of 2020, Michael worked at Princeton University Army ROTC, both as an Operations Officer (2019-2020) and MS I Instructor (2013-2014). Mr. Newton has also worked as an MS I Instructor and Battalion Historian at Cornell University (2015-2019) and the University of Scranton (2014-2015).  Michael has also worked as a Human Resource Assistant at 2nd ROTC Brigade, Fort Dix, New Jersey (2012-2013).

Michael was commissioned as an Air Defense Artillery Officer form the Army ROTC program at Florida Institute of Technology in 1996. He is currently as Major in the Vermont Army National Guard.  Michael's overseas assignments include: Movement Control Team Leader, 520th Transporation Detachment, Tallil AB, Iraq; Assistant Operations Officer, 332nd Transportation Battalion, Kuwaiti Naval Base, Kuwait; Battalion Intelligence Officer, 6-52 ADA Battalion, Suwon AB, Korea; Battery Commander, Headquarters Battery, 35th ADA Brigade, Osan AB, Korea; and National Support Element Executive Officer, Pristina, Kosovo.

Michael currently resides in Essex Junction, Vermont.
