In recent years, the ability to perform cutting-edge research in university settings has become increasingly dependent on the quality and scope of the core facilities which provide the shared instrumentation and technological resources that support investigators.

Key attributes of these core facilities are: cost efficiency; greater access to advanced instrumentation; quality control and research rigor; technological development; and education and training.
