Director

SONJA LUNDE

Sonja Lunde is the Fleming Museum’s Director. She is an experienced arts administrator and museum professional responsible for providing leadership, strategic vision, and managerial oversight of programmatic and planning initiatives in support of the Museum’s mission. She holds a BA in Art History from George Washington University and a MA in Organizational and Strategic Communication from the University of Utah. Sonja has a strong, demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work in the museum field and devotes a significant amount of her time volunteering in professional capacities, most recently serving as Vice President of the board of directors of the Western Museums Association (WMA).

Sonja was born and raised in Vermont and has a special relationship to the Fleming, as one of her grandfather’s photographs was featured in an exhibition at the Museum in the 1940s. In addition to being a lover of arts and museums, she is an avid skier, hiker, traveler, Jeopardy fan, and dog person.

Operations and Visitor Services Coordinator

Operations and Visitor Services Coordinator Bella Anastasio

BELLA ANASTASIO

Bella Anastasio is the Fleming Museum’s Operations and Visitor Services Coordinator. Bella joined the museum in 2023 and currently oversees the daily operations of the Fleming Museum, including the museum’s team of UVM Student Employees. Prior to joining the Fleming Museum, Bella lived and worked in New York City, where she received her MA in Curatorial Practice from the School of Visual Arts and worked as Assistant Director of Candice Madey Gallery. Before that, Bella attended the University of Vermont, where she received a dual degree in Art History and Studio Art. Bella first worked with the Fleming in 2019 when she took a Museum Studies course at the University through which she co-curated the exhibition Resist! Insist! Persist!, an investigation into the history of art and activism. In her free time Bella enjoys traveling, seeing live music, and spending time with her cat, Milly..

Manager of Collections and Exhibitions Kristan M. Hanson

KRISTAN M. HANSON

Kristan M. Hanson brings an interest in artistic engagements with the plant world and environmental justice to her work at the Fleming Museum of Art. In her role as the Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, she is responsible for conducting original research on objects and researching, developing, and implementing exhibitions. Prior to joining the Fleming, she held a digital managing editorship and an academic year fellowship in plant humanities at Dumbarton Oaks. Her work experience also includes positions in academic programs and curatorial research at the University of Kansas’s Spencer Museum of Art and in museum education and visual resources management at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Business Manager

Business Manager Garaun McKenzie

GARAUN McKENZIE

Garaun McKenzie oversees the business operations as the Fleming Museum’s Business Manager. Garaun joined the College of Education and Social Services in 2021 as the Business Operations Specialist in the Dean’s Office. Before joining the University, Garaun gained experience working in procurement and logistics. He then joined the Student Support Services team at SUNY Plattsburgh (alma mater) as a Services Engagement Specialist. Garaun worked closely with the SSS team to coordinate workshops, advise students, and manage the social media pages to foster support and engagement. Currently, Garaun serves as a Staff Council representative and on the Personal & Professional Development committee.

Manager of Campus and Community Engagement

PHIL MORIN

Phil Morin is the Fleming Museum’s Manager of Campus & Community Engagement. First working at the Fleming over a decade ago as a student intern, he helped conduct an inventory of the collection and assisted with the early development of the museum’s database. When the opportunity arose to return in 2021, he sprang at the chance to rejoin the Fleming's staff, working first in the Learning Studio and then as the museum’s Guest Service Coordinator. In his current role as Manager of Campus & Community Engagement, he organizes learning opportunities and programming for K-12 students and teachers, college students and faculty, and community visitors of all ages.

Manager of Collections and Exhibitions Margaret Tamulonis

MARGARET TAMULONIS

Margaret was originally trained in historical archaeology and has been working at museums and historical societies since 1993. As Manager of Collections and Exhibitions she is responsible for the care and documentation of the museum collections as well as the logistics around exhibitions. She has also curated exhibitions on diverse topics such as the Fleming Museum's history, Sri Lankan masks, and drinking. She is a volunteer with the  Pride Center of Vermont, a curator of  the Vermont Queer Archives and a member of the board of the Heritage Winooski Mill Museum.

Preparator

Preparator Suzy Zaner

SUZY ZANER

Suzy Zaner serves as the Preparator for the Fleming Museum. She is responsible for fabricating, installing, and maintaining exhibitions. Prior to starting at the Fleming in 2022, she worked at Shelburne Museum for 16 years. Originally from Maine, she received her BA in Mass Communication from The University of Maine and served in the United States Peace Corps in Uzbekistan. She enjoys travelling and volunteering her time with local organizations.

FLEMING MUSEUM OF ART BOARD OF ADVISORS

The Board of Advisors for the Fleming Museum of Art consists of leaders in the arts, the humanities, education, and business appointed for the purpose of advising the Director of the Fleming Museum and the Provost and President of the University on all aspects of the Museum’s operations. The Board plays an active role in advancing the Museum’s programmatic goals and facilitating the growth of financial resources.
