Catalyst Awards Winners will be announced January 2018.

More than 90 scholars submitted 21 proposals for the Gund Institute for Environment’s first Catalyst Awards seed grant competition.

The winners of the new annual UVM-wide grant program will be announced in January 2018. Up to $150,000 in Catalyst Awards will support individual awards ranging from $10,000 to $50,000.

Submission highlights

• Proposals from 21 interdisciplinary teams
• Participants from 7 UVM colleges/schools and 26 UVM departments
• 92 scholars involved (60 UVM, 32 external)
• Co-authors from 30+ external institutions, including Harvard, Yale and Princeton.
• More than $780,000 in proposed projects

Gund Catalyst Awards were created to launch important new research targeting solutions to urgent environmental challenges. The program also aims to boost interdisciplinary scholarship at UVM by incentivizing collaboration across academic units.

“We’ve been blown away by both quality and quantity of Catalyst Awards proposals,” says Donna Rizzo, Gund Institute acting director. “We are excited to announce the successful proposals in January. Until then, our reviewers have a difficult task ahead of them.”
