Are there many queer and trans students on campus?

Yes.  Queer and trans students and their allies are all over campus. There is a queer presence in many student clubs & organizations and a busy calendar of LGBTQ+ events and programs for all to enjoy.  Contact us to find out more about any of this and check out our resources, programs and events, and social media pages.

Is there a vibrant presence of queer faculty and staff?

Yes.  We and other UVM community members are often able to connect students to LGBTQ+ faculty and staff mentors and support staff.

Are there LGBTQ+ housing options and gender inclusive spaces?

Yes.  UVM's Office of Residential Life works with the Prism Center to offer LGBTQ+ community-building or safer housing options for its LGBTQ+ students.  Housing options differ depending on whether you are a new or returning student.  Download our Housing FAQ (pdf) for more info.

Learn more about gender-inclusive restrooms on campus by visiting this page.  The campus map also contains a filter that displays the locations of gender-inclusvive restrooms across campus. Select "Services" from the left-hand menu and then choose "gender-inclusive restrooms" from the drop-down list.  Hover over the icons to see location details.

As an incoming student, are there ways to get connected to other LGBTQ+ students before school starts?

Yes.  Aside from Summer Orientation, UVM offers an optional LGBTQ+ affinity, pre-move-in experience that provides a supportive and affirming space to explore the outdoors on a hike through Vermont's back country.  The program offers scholarships.  To learn more about the UVM Trek program visit their website. Since this program is operated by the Office of Student Life, please direct questions about UVM Trek to trek@uvm.edu
