Orange barOutside Scholarship information must be submitted to SFS so it can be reflected in the financial aid award.

Federal guidelines require all financial resources to be taken into account when determining eligibility for financial aid.

If you received an outside scholarship award letter

Include the student 95 number on the award letter and submit a copy to SFS using one of the following methods:

  • Scan and submit to sfs@uvm.edu
  • Fax to (802) 656-4076
  • Mail to:
    UVM
    Student Financial Services
    223 Waterman Building
    85 So. Prospect Street
    Burlington, VT 05405

If you received an outside scholarship check

Submit the outside scholarship check, along with the scholarship award letter (if applicable) directly to SFS.

  • Include the student 95 number on the check (and award letter)
  • Mail check (and award letter) to:
    UVM
    Student Financial Services
    223 Waterman Building
    85 So. Prospect Street
    Burlington, VT 05405
  • Once received, the check will be deposited and applied to the student account.

Note:

  • If the scholarship check is made out to UVM and the student - the student should sign the back of the check before submitting to SFS, so that the check can be processed.
  • If the scholarship check is made out only to the student - the student should sign the back of the check (do not deposit) and write "Make payable to UVM" before submitting to SFS, so that the check can be processed.

If you received a scholarship check, but do not have an award letter, submit a note with the check stating the following information:

  • What is the name of the scholarship (if not identified by check)?
  • How should this scholarship be applied to the student account (apply all to fall, apply all to spring, or split between both semesters)?
  • Is there another check coming for the spring semester?

If you are receiving an outside scholarship but, have not received an award letter or check

Send an email to notify our office about your scholarship. Include the student 95 number and provide the following information:

  • Scholarship name and organization
  • Amount of scholarship
  • How the scholarship should be applied to the student account (apply all to fall, apply all to spring, or split between both semesters)
  • When our office should expect to receive your scholarship check (note: your award will not be adjusted to reflect your scholarship until our office receives the award check or a copy of the award letter)

Note:

Our office makes every attempt to reduce need-based loans and work programs before adjusting any need-based grant or University scholarship assistance. Please realize that in some cases, if the amount of your additional resources is higher than your loans and work programs, we may be required to reduce your need-based grant and/or scholarship funds.
