Sue Dinitz, Senior Lecturer in English, received her B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University and her Ph.D. from Ohio State University. She has been teaching courses in rhetoric and composition at the University of Vermont since 1980. From 1983-1988 and 1998-present, she has directed the UVM Writing Center. Sue is currently working with the Writing in the Disciplines Program to develop an undergraduate peer mentoring program for writing-intensive classes.

In 1995 Sue received the Kroepsch-Maurice Excellence in Teaching Award, in 2004 she was selected as Vermont Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and in 2007 she received the Ron Maxwell Award, a national award recognizing distinguished leadership in promoting the collaborative learning practices of peer tutoring in writing.

Sue's scholarship has focused on teaching writing and on writing centers. Sue presents regularly at composition conferences and writing center conferences, and has published articles on topics such as the use of Universal Design in writing centers, whether writing tutors need disciplinary expertise, and the complications of inter-disciplinary teaching.
