The Dean's Faculty Excellence in Research Award recognizes innovation in moving from basic science to practical applications that enhances human health and wellbeing, including the adoption of best practices in the community (implementation science) as well as the potential of the research to lead to meaningful applications.

The recipient will be featured on the CNHS Wall of Excellence and receive an award of $1,500.00 that can be used to support research. The recipient will present a talk to the CNHS faculty the subsequent academic year during the CNHS Ziegler Research Forum in May.

Eligibility and Nomination

  • All tenure and non-tenure track faculty members with a primary appointment in CNHS
  • Nominations may be made by individuals, self or others, who are employed by CNHS. It is the responsibility of the nominator (s) to insure that all required materials are submitted to the Associate Dean for Translational Research (ADTR).
  • Nominations must include an updated CV of the nominee and a statement regarding why this individual should receive the Dean's Excellence in Research Award.
  • Evaluation of nominees and selection of the recipient of the Dean's Research Award for CNHS will be the responsibility of the ADTR who will consult with the CNHS Research Committee, as appropriate.
  • Past recipients are ineligible.
  • Past nominees are eligible, but must be re-nominated. Materials need to be resubmitted and appropriately updated.
  • No award shall be made in any year in which it is determined by the ADTR in consultation with the CNHS Research Committee that no deserving candidates have been nominated.

Submissions

Nomination materials must include the following:

  • A 500-word nomination statement written by the nominator explaining why the nominee should receive the Dean's Excellence in Research Award.
  • A copy of the nominee's current curriculum vitae. Please email the CV separately with subject "Dean's Award Nomination" to cnhsresearch@med.uvm.edu

If necessary, the ADTR will request additional information from the nominator and/or the nominee.

Criteria for Evaluation of Submissions

Materials submitted to the ADTR in support of each nomination will be evaluated for evidence of innovation in translational research, and could include but are not limited to:

  1. Evidence of innovative research that enhances human health, as demonstrated by recognition of the work by the scholarly community within the discipline. This would include peer-reviewed publications, success in grant funding, etc.
  2. Evidence of integrated research initiatives that support and advance inter-professional and trans-disciplinary best practices.
  3. Evidence of incorporating research and scholarship into the CNHS teaching portfolio.
  4. Evidence of student participation and collaboration in research agenda.
  5. Evidence of research that supports the service mission of the University.
