Overall Requirements for M.Ed. in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies

  • 30 credit hours distributed among core and research courses, independent study, and electives
  • 15 of the 30 credits comprise the core curriculum, with the remainder making up the student's individual concentration
  • Leadership portfolio, which marks the final requirement of the program (portfolios are presented at each student's culminating master's oral examination)

Transfer Courses (up to 9 credits)

Students petition to their program advisor for approval of all transfer credits. All transfer credits must abide by Graduate College requirements. A copy of the transfer policy is in the Student Handbook.

Independent Study

Students consult with their advisor and individual program faculty to develop the Independent Study. Proposals must be submitted one semester ahead of starting the Independent Study course, and Independent Study forms must be on file before registering for credits. Guidelines for proposal development are in the Student Handbook.

Application Information

Please apply for the program through the UVM Graduate College website. The application includes a statement of purpose, three letters of reference, and copies of all official transcripts. The application deadline is May 15 for the Fall semester, and November 15 for the Spring semester.
