Counseling Internship

All students in UVM Counseling Program are required to complete an internship experience working in the field under the supervision of a practicing counselor. This is a vital component of counselor training. Multiple prerequisite courses are in place to prepare students for their internship, and the experience itself is structured in a way that supports and scaffolds student learning.

The internship is directly preceded by enrollment in and successful completion of all practicum course requirements. The practicum involves 100 hours altogether with 40 hours of direct service and 60 hours of indirect service. Students receive weekly individual and group supervision from faculty. Completion of the practicum is based on successful demonstration of counseling skills and appropriate profession practice.

Effective counselor training would not be possible without the support of our community partners including schools and mental health agencies that provide valuable internship experiences for our students. Internship site resources are for matriculated counseling students only. These records are password protected (sign in with your UVM ID and password).
