Are GRE scores required?
No, they are no longer required by the Counseling Program and the Graduate College (as of October 2015).
What does the on-campus interview entail?
Interviews are by invitation only. Students are invited to a group interview only after their applications have been reviewed. We have two interview dates and interview applicants in a group setting with one or more faculty members, staff and current graduate students.
During that process we get to know a bit about each other, talk about the program and expectations, applicants are asked a spontaneous question (same question for everyone) and they have a few minutes to think about it before responding to the group.
At the end of the interview, faculty and staff leave and we invite current students in to talk with you about any questions you might want to ask from a student's perspective.
What if I would like to speak with or meet other students in the program?

May I visit a class while I'm in town?

What is the difference between counselors, psychologists, and social workers?
Counselors, psychologists, and social workers are all professional helpers with extensive training beyond the undergraduate level that prepares them for clinical practice.
The scope of practice for counselors and psychologists is similar, although the training that prepares for this practice varies, particularly in regard to philosophical orientation, and practice standards and licensure requirements are governed by different professional agencies and organizations. For example, in most states, psychologists must have a Ph.D. for licensure, whereas Clinical Mental Health and Social Worker practitioners typically have Masters level training.
Counselors and psychologists use their training in human development theories to form therapeutic relationships with clients that help them improve their everyday functioning, strengthen relationships, develop communication skills, and recover from trauma, addictions, stress, and mental illness. Psychologists may have a more decided focus on psychopathology, whereas counselors may be oriented more towards developmental trajectories and issues of social justice and advocacy. This latter emphasis on social justice and advocacy is also typically shared by social worker training programs.
Along with clinical social workers, however, all of these professionals make use of the same contemporary intervention theories in their therapeutic work. Psychologists may be more likely than the other two to conduct formal diagnostic assessments, whereas social workers may have a stronger focus on case management skills, such as coordinating services for clients outside of one-on-one interactions.

Green Mountain Transit is the public bus system for Burlington and the surrounding area.

Is there a place to eat near Mann Hall?
The Trinity Campus Cafe is located in the "Northside Dining" in McAuley Hall, down the hill from Mann Hall. The cafe is open daily, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm and 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday during the regular semester.
