2018 Award Winners

Glenn Walberg, MAcc Teacher of the Year

Larry Stark, Outstanding Graduate Award in The MAcc Department & 2018 CPA Exam Elijah Watt Sells Award Winner

I am from Manchester, Vermont. I earned a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting and minor in statistics from UVM in 2017. During my time at UVM, I had the opportunity to intern at PwC in Montpelier, as well as work in a variety of other accounting roles. I also had the unique privilege to enjoy all that Burlington had to offer. Due to my undergraduate experiences, I decided that a career in accounting was the right fit for me; I entered the accelerated MAcc program during my senior year.  I was honored to receive the MAcc Outstanding Student Award before I graduated in 2017. This summer I will be taking the CPA exams and preparing for my move to Boston, MA, where I will begin working in assurance at PwC. I am excited to start my career in Boston and feel that the skills and experiences I have attained from the UVM MAcc program has prepared me well for it.

Larry is also a winner of the 2018 CPA Exam Elijah Watt Sells Award and is the second recipient of the award to have graduated from the UVM MAcc program. In 2016 MAcc graduate Olivia Spooner received the award and is employed with RSM US, LLP in Boston, MA.

The AICPA released the 2018 names of the award winners on April 11. 110 CPA candidates qualified for the award. Nearly 86,000 candidates sat for the exam during 2018. To qualify for the award, CPA candidates must obtain a cumulative average score above 95.50 across all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination, pass all four sections on their first attempt and have completed testing in 2018.

Outstanding Graduate Award in The MAcc Program

Hannah Averill

I am from Georgia, Vermont. I earned a B.S. in Business Administration with concentrations in accounting and marketing from UVM in May of 2016. While enrolled, I had the opportunity to intern at Keurig Green Mountain in Williston and PwC in Montpelier. Through my valuable experiences I gained during my internships and through coursework, I decided that a career in accounting was the right fit for me. I entered the MAcc program during my senior year as an accelerated student. I was honored to receive the MAcc Outstanding Student Award before I graduated in 2017. This summer I will be taking the CPA exams and preparing for my move to Denver, CO where I have accepted a position in assurance. I am very excited to start my adventure out west and begin a career in accounting while being close to the mountains.

Frank Colavito

I am from Brookfield CT. I graduated from UVM in 2016 with a BS in Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting and Marketing, and a minor in Parks, Recreation and Tourism.  I loved Burlington and the surrounding area, snowboarding and the outdoors, and learned a ton from my undergraduate courses; so it was an easy decision to stay on and continue with the MAcc program. While at UVM, I interned at both VT Gas Systems, Inc as an accounting intern and at EY as an assurance intern. After graduation I moved to Boston to start my career at EY as an Assurance Staff, while continuing to study and earn my CPA certification. I was honored to receive the Outstanding Graduate Award in the MAcc Program in 2017 and have already began to use my skills that I learned in the program at the start of my career in public accounting.
