Guidance for visitors to UVM has been updated. Please see the memo from October 20, 2020, "Increased Restrictions on Visitors to Campus."
Revised September 16, 2020
Dear University of Vermont Faculty and Staff,
The university has implemented an aggressive and comprehensive set of measures aimed at maintaining the safety and health of our campus and local communities this fall. Another way we can reduce the risk of Coronavirus is to avoid exposure to visitors who are not practicing our health and safety requirements or are not participating in our rigorous testing protocols.
For this reason, the university has temporarily suspended all academic visitors -- in-state, domestic and international -- to campus for the fall 2020 semester. This includes all levels and categories of academic visitors such as undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and other professionals. If a visit is perceived as essential, it will require pre-approval from the Provost. If the visit's intended outcome can be achieved virtually, an in-person visit should not take place.
To request a visitor exception, please have your dean or vice president submit to Associate Provost Jim Vigoreaux a memo providing the following information at least 30 days before any proposed visit:
- Host Department
- Host Faculty or Staff Member
- Name of Traveler
- Location Traveling From
- Visit Start and End Dates
- Purpose of the Visit
- Visit Activities (identify meetings, facilities accessed, etc.)
- Essential Visitor Justification (explain why the visit is essential at this time)
In addition, for out-of-state visitors:
- Method of Travel to Vermont
- Vermont Housing Arrangements
- Vermont Quarantine Requirements (based on departure location)
If a visitor has already been invited to campus for the fall, you must submit a retroactive exception request as soon as possible, and please let the visitor know that under the current circumstances, the visit requires reconsideration.
Exceptions will be granted in only the rarest of circumstances. If a visit is approved, the Dean/Vice President, Department Chair, and Host will be asked to sign a document outlining health and safety requirements, and identifying the UVM individuals who will be responsible for ensuring that quarantine, training, screening, and other COVID-19 requirements are met.
The process for spring 2021 academic visitors will be determined later in the fall semester.
Thank you in advance for your understanding of this necessary precaution.
Patricia A. Prelock
Provost and Senior Vice President
