"Bachata is one of the Caribbean's most popular music genres, and it has a new star in 36-year-old Joan Soriano.”– All Things Considered, NPR
Known as El Duque de Bachata and the subject of a feature-length documentary of that name, Joan Soriano is a master of the Bachata style: an infectious, melodic dance and music style essential to the culture of the Dominican Republic. Born in the rural countryside near Santo Domingo, Soriano infuses this soulful music with longing, romance, and grit. Along with his six-person band, Soriano brings a new sound to our stage: addictive rhythms from the Afro-Caribbean world combined with his gorgeous singing, intricate steel string guitar playing, and sensuous dance moves.
