Town:
Glastenbury

Bennington
State:
Vermont
Date:

Description:
View from within the remains of the Eagle Square sawmill in Fayville. Ferns and rocks fill the inside of the stone foundation. Leafy deciduous trees grow around the outside of what remains of the structure. There is evidence of a raceway for water power to exit the structure in the area. The saw mill was built prior to 1869 when it shows up on a Beers Atlas map. Eagle Square, was one of Vermont's oldest industries, having started in South Shaftsbury in the 1820s; it was purchased by Stanley Tools in 1916, and the latter withdrew with 160 jobs in 2002.
