ETS Hard Drive Cllection and Destruction Program

Enterprise Technology Services has formalized the computer hard drive collection and destruction program.

In accordance with the UVM Information Security Policy Procedures, section 16.3, when disposing of or repurposing university-owned computers, you are required to securely erase or physically destroy their hard drives.

If you will be repurposing or disposing of a functional computer, we recommend using the secure erase procedures found at www.uvm.edu/it/security/erase/.

If you will be disposing of your computer because it is no longer functional or practical to use, you may either securely erase the hard drive (if possible), or have it destroyed through the ETS collection and destruction program.

You may bring drives to B-212 Billings Center any time between 8AM - 4PM. We ask that you send an email to ETS.Client.Services@uvm.edu with an advanced notification, especially if you have a large quantity to drop off.

If you need assistance removing the hard drive(s), please contact your IT support staff or the Client Services Hardware Team.

Drives will be logged by recording their serial numbers at the point of drop off. Drives will be securely stored until the scheduled destruction can be completed.

We will schedule destructions for January and July, or as needed by volume. These scheduled destructions should give us the necessary volume to maintain attractive pricing from our vendor.

Drives removed for destruction from Multifunction Devices (MFD) coming off lease should be handled through the procedures already in place through Procurement Services. Please contact Procurement Services for documentation and with any questions.
