Disposal of Surplus Computers and Electronic Waste

Would you throw your wallet away without first emptying it of your personal items? Probably not. You'd first want to remove your credit cards, drivers license, photos, keys, or any other personal items you save inside before tossing it in the bin. Similarly, when you dispose of your computer and the data stored on its hard disk, you'll want to securely erase it of all personal and confidential information. Just as our drivers licenses and credit cards falling into the wrong hands could pose serious problems in our lives, the discovery of information on discarded or transferred computers could have significant legal and financial consequences for the university.
